CONSULTANT - A BOON OR A CURSE

I HAVE ARRIVED FROM UAE & HAVING EXP. IN WORKING WITH RENOWNED CONSULTANTS OVER THERE. I FEEL THAT IN QATAR, CONSULTANTS LACK QUALIFIED & WELL EXPERIENCED  ENGINEERS TO OFFER SOLUTIONS TO THE PROJECTS THEY UNDERTAKE. OFTEN IT IS SEEN THAT CONTRACTORS BECOME EXTENSION OF THESE CONSULTANTS TO SOLVE SITE ISSUES.

Would you please use lower case characters.

Using capital letters is seen as shouting and considered rude on the internet and on this forum.

Part of the so called "consultancy problem" is the lack of the will on the goverment level, to check on all these projects based on standard international engineering practices. They tend to place "locals" as bossess/heads of the "consultants' and yet the "bosses" do not have enough of their experience nurtured in different situational problems being encountered at the site almost everyday.>>

The old saying "When you pay peanuts you get monkeys" is never more true than in the consultancy business.

You can see on the roads. They lay the road, the next day they dig it for some reasons. Insted of doing work they are 'creating' work due to lack of experience.

I HAVE WITNESSED THAT CONSULTANT TRY TO SQUEEZE EVERYBODY IN ORDER TO SAVE ON CLEINT'S BUDGET. AS A RESULT WE SEE THE QUALITY OF WORK ON THESE PROJECTS. MYSELF BEING IN AIR-CONDITIONING INDUSTRY, I HAVE SEEN OUR COMPETITORS OFFER PRODUCTS WHICH MEET BUDGET RATHER MEET SPECIFICATIONS.

ALSO I HAVE SEEN MOST OF THE COMPANIES DON;T HAVE TECHNO-COMMERCIAL SALES ENGINEERS IN THIS FIELD, HENCE WE DO HAVE COMPLAINTS FROM CONSULTANTS THAT THE SUPPLIERS LACK TECHNICAL KNOWLEGDE & LACK IN COMMUNICATION.

WE SHOULD PITY THESE COMPANIES WHO MARKET WORLD RENOWNED BRANDS WITH PROPER SALES ENGINEERS.

I think it depends on which type of consultancy work one is involved, but I do agree with you AQUILA, there are quite a number of so called "consultant" involved in significant projects, and yet are lacking in experiences to handle such amount of work as expected from him. I think the reason for these has to do with economics, consultancy companies tend to hire engineers on a lower salary scale because of fierce competition in getting projects. So what would one expect? Maybe we could not also discount the fact that all of us here are just on contract, and some of us are "just riding the tide" so to speak and does not really input the best in everything that we do>>>>
