Consumer Prices falling

Qatar’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded three consecutive months of decreases within the first quarter of 2009. The general measure of prices for household consumption fell by 7.3 percent in January when compared to the fourth quarter of 2008.

The CPI then fell a further 1.1 percent in February and a further 1.5 percent in March, the Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) said today in its release of a newly developed monthly CPI.

The housing component of the CPI (rent, fuel and energy) recorded the most significant decline of 13.2% between the fourth quarter of 2008 and January 2009, followed by the transport and communications component with a 6.0% decline during the same period.

Food, Beverages and Tobacco increased slightly between fourth quarter 2008 and January 2009, then started to decline during the following two months.

Between January and February, Furniture, Textiles and Home Appliances declined by 3.0%, and further declined by 1.2% between February and March.

This is the first time that QSA has released the Consumer Price Index on a monthly basis. QSA changed the base year for estimating CPI from 2001 to 2006, in order to better reflect household spending in Qatar.

I saw decline of prices in few things last week but this week they were back to the same high price. I'll go for grapes instead, they were all the time 25 per kg then last week it reduced to 5.50 I think & this week again 15 /17 per kg.

CONFUSE ............ if you cannot convince!
