Hello All,

Miss the Cost of Living section that used to be on the site and was very helpful. Since the question has not been asked for a while, hoping to get your input on the following to get an estimate on expenses.

In process of securing an opportunity which pays 18K per month with accomodation, utilities and the other usual benefits paid for.

Here is my breakdown for a family of 3 (2 adults, 1 year old baby)

Groceries - 3,500 QAR

Transportation - 3,500 QAR

Eat out (Nando's etc on weekend) -1,500 QAR

Misc - 3,000 QAR

Internet and TV - 400 QAR

2 cell phones - 600 QAR

Gym for 2 - 500 QAR

Total - 13,000 QAR

Your input is much appreciated.

@MM yes that 3000 Misc... could be for alcohol and canadian bacon! In that case, this estimation is really goooooood!

@ Shake - you can get a liquor & pork license at QDC, bring with you, your RP and QAR 1000 for deposit, soon you will join the community of many and enjoy Qatar, peace be with you!

Muhammad you could eliminate this expense entirely by staying in your house and watching TV, instead of going out and living your life LOL. I think his estimate is pretty good for a normal family earning a normal wage.

Eat out (Nando's etc on weekend) -1,500 QAR for what ? , You can eliminate this totally . Instead of spending at restos go to your friends / colleagues / junior staffs / neighbours homes on alternative weeks , your month will pass so easily with a lot of gossip there as well .................... This looks like a good estimate, I spend similar amount for my family, except Misc of 3000. Is that your rent? For the TV and Mobile Phone package, check with Ooredoo, they might have a bundle package, so it should bring the cost down.
