Could this be a trick to catch me? :(

So the story of my life is that I changed my bank from commercial to QNB last year, however i havent closed my Commercial bank account and there is no balance in that account. I just got a sms today saying that they have renewed my debit card and its waiting in QPOST for me to collect it.

What if i dont want to collect it? My balance in Commercial has been 0.00 since last year do you think they will charge me for not keeping the min. balance in that account? Its no longer my primary bank where my monthly salary goes and its a savings account so i dont think they should charge me.

I feel they just want to catch me...meow :(

Yeah you do have a point too, better to be safe than sorry, i'll give them a call requesting to close the account and see what they have to say. If they say i have to pay any fines i'll slam the phone down on their face!

thats the money making policy of bank... better close the account the sooner the better..

otherwise they will keep charging the account for low balance.. then they will add interest on it..

and finally one day when you are force to close the account.. some Govt. policy or moving out of the country like .. then they will come up with a huge negative account balance.. and then there will be no use of arguing with them.. as they will keeping telling "Sir.. it's bank policy"

so better.. be hurry..and sweep your account clear and close it if you plan to close it.

winner never quits and quitter never wins.. does it means that only one person will win all the time?

Just ignore their message and relax dude....

.

You can send ACCOUNT CLOSING REQUEST by mail and don't have to go in person.

.

Otherwise, do nothing and this account will be closed

Yes but what if i go to close my account and they tell me to pay up the min balance fees at the rate of what 50 riyals? Thats like 500 bucks, hell if i'm going to spend that money to close a freaking account, i'd rather use that money to buy myself some xtreme meals at KFC and hope to win a Wolverine Dog Tag :)

Just close your account with them. Once close you are no more its customers and therefore no further deals are applicable. For the charges kind of thing..sounds strange. Must be the effort for them to maintain its existence in their book. Normally, account will just go dormant after 6 years lapse and any proceeds will go to central bank.

such charges are never revealed as they are marked/pending in their database. So ,the moment they will get any amount equivalent or more than their charges, system will either debit customer's acount instantly or after the END OF DAY.

.

I'm sure that if this account is ACTIVE, they will charge u LOW BALANCE CHARGES. Also, i think current account becomes dormant after 1 year, Saving after 6 months, fixed accounts after 3 years. After that system can automatically close any such account with ZERO balance.

.

Moreover, every bank has its own internal policy too for such accounts

I dono how it is in Qatar but usually your salary account has a zero balance limit but if u've shifted the salary account to anther bank then u'll have a minimum balance limit and usually they will have a fine for not retaining the minimum amount. And sometimes they charge you an interest on the money u owe them... so I think ur in some shit there smokey

Atif, i have no intentions of putting any money in that bank ever and when i checked online through their website there is not outstanding money that i owe the bank either. It would show if i had to pay them the min balance charges right? Isnt there like a time period for an account with no balance to be closed automatically? What if i was dead?

OMG they sent me the SMS again!

Problem is too lazy to go there and they are too F'ing lazy to handle anything. The made me come running up their arse for 1 stupid clearence letter when i wanted to shift salary accounts. I must have gone there like 3 times just to be told this arse is not there today and its not ready blah blah. So i thought i'd teach them a lesson now :p Might come and bite me in the bum though.

Yup that could be the case because banks will debit the account with for LOW BALANCE CHARGES on monthly basis. Moreover, as you account is still active so you might have the old DEBIT CARD which might have got expired and they have automatically renewed your debit card. So, the moment you will deposit money in your account low balance charges will be debited on the next working day or may be instantly.

.

As a banker, I would say don't touch that account if you're not using it as a PRIMARY ACCOUNT of urs.

there are laws governing dormant account whether it's zero balance or not. What's the problem in closing it?
