Cow Slaughter & India's Secular Constitution
The family of a Muslim man lynched in India over rumours he had eaten beef could face criminal charges after they were accused of slaughtering a cow - a taboo in the mainly Hindu country.
Around 100 people dragged Mohammad Akhlaq, 50, from his house in Uttar Pradesh state last year and beat him to death in a case that horrified the nation and fuelled concerns of a rise in religious intolerance.
His family has consistently denied the rumours and police have arrested 19 local people over the killing.
But on Thursday a local court ruled that there was enough evidence to investigate Akhlaq's wife and adult children for allegedly killing a cow, according to lawyers for both sides.
Cow slaughter is a criminal offence in many Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, and the court made its decision after receiving a petition from a group of local residents.
"The court accepted the petition mainly on the basis of the government report which confirmed the recovery of beef and key eye witnesses who saw them slaughtering a calf," said Rajiv Tyagi, a lawyer for the petitioners.
Police investigating Akhlaq's murder were initially reported to have found beef at his home, though it later emerged that the meat was found on a nearby rubbish dump.
Indian constitution is "Secluar (Non Religious)" then how can a religious sub law override the supreme law of the land i.e. Constitution?
Dear Mary Vani,
I read all your points and thank you for the same highlighting how many problem the country of Pakistan has greater than India or just in Pakistan itself.
In my opinion all the South Asian countries are behind in comparison with the developed countries. I have watched Mr.Rajan Data’s travel show in BBC about South Asian countries & cities. Not a good site at all about certain living conditions.
Note :
A person coming to prophet Mohamed Sallahu Alahi Wasallam and saying, that, One women is praying whole night and doing lot of good deeds but having a very bad relationship with the neighbor. Another women didn’t do much prayers and good deed’s but had a good relationship with the neighbor. What is the reward for both?
Women No 1 :The answer from Prophet Mohamed Sallalhu alahiwasalm is, the only place the women can reach is hell fire.
Women No 2 : She will be in paradise.
I consider countries closer to our destination are neighbors. From my prospective, I will not have any Joy in bringing down my neighboring country.
I will never make an argument that India better or Pakistan better. If the both country citizens were given citizen ship in a European country on a free will, How many educated and non-educated people will move keeping their country behind?
PN: I am not a supporter of Pakistan, India or any other country relevant to this topic. I am a supporter of Humanity.
Dear Equin0x,
Still waiting for a point wise answer to my 5 questions.
Love & regards,
Mary Vani

My Heart full thank to Qatar for the wonderful contribution they are doing for the world.
When this is the case, I will not demand for the special meal I eat and after they provide the same, I will not highlight in a public forum on a different way.
Coming back to the subject: Lets help the blind to cross the road. After decided the same, not necessary to point out the inability of the blind in midway.
Lets help each other and move forward for the betterment of all the countries.
Nature understands the nature of human beings, which is why it knows which shall be harmful to them, and what quantity can benefit them all. That is why, Islam has put Limit (Shariah) on every thing ONLY for the benefit of communities on a large scale.
While limits are in place, yet exceptions for one off scenarios, too are permissible under the Shariah. For example:
A traveler is allowed to offer a short version of prayer, a patient is allowed to avoid fasting, a non affording person is exempted from the pilgrimage and zakat is applicable on only the people having surplus.
Every religion has its own beauty and paths, the paths that directs the believers towards "God".
Qatar is an Islamic state says the constitution of Qatar - in case you didn't know.
And as a nice side effect it brings millions of Riyals in the pockets of the State of Qatar, The Islamic State of Qatar, I should say.
Of course "we" are. You can buy pork and alcohol at QDC!
Equinox. ..are you sure that we muslims are more tolerant than Hindus.
Mary,
Thank you for your meaningful comment.
Yes, I had been highlighting the Pak issues as well, with vigor, and everyone including me accept that Pakistan has mountains of problems and until and unless media debate generated, solutions and actions shall not happen quickly.
On the other hand, when we highlight any issue related to our neighbors, that does not mean, in any that we are coloring India with black paint, rather we want to know the core reasons and constructive solutions thereon.
Most of our Hindu friends, discuss the issues with us with open heart and without any offense , because they do not treat it personal or a matter of disrespect, rather a point of honesty.
For example one of my Hindu friends from Nepal says that due to narrowness of Hindus (he himself is a devote Hindu), this religion has self contained itself to only India and Nepal as compared to tolerant Islam, which despite being new, has quickly spread to around 60 countries.
And please forgive me, for this example as I have been a student of comparative religions and know lots of beautiful Hindu concepts, which are unique on their own.

Dear Equin0x,
1) Please pin point my anti Muslim comments.
2) Please pin point my anti Pakistan comments which are "always" biased.
3) When did I take any thing personally?
4) "Common man's disputes, we are there to highlight and explore probable solutions"
Why do you want to highlight and explore probable solutions as if Pakistan doesn't have any problem?
What are solution do you have for Pakistan for the below points which are higher than India;
1. Terrorism/Sovereignty Violation
2. Religious Intolerance
3. Water Shortage
4. Inflation
5. Rampant Corruption
6. Provincial Disharmony
7. Devalued Currency
8. Unemployment
9. Low Education
10.Weak Foreign Policy
5) Please highlight any one problem which Pakistan is better in handling than India.
Love & regards,
Mary Vani
Mary Vani,
Your anti Pakistan and anti Muslim comments are always biased, sarcastic and falling from balance.
We have no business with India, and rather have respect for its so many good things, but when it comes to neighboring and common man's disputes, we are there to highlight and explore probable solutions. And if you are taking that personally then we WILL too.
The onus of that shall be on you solely.
Dear Mary Vani,
Small correction about the cow slaughter. The way I understood is that if any slaughtering other than the name of Allah is Haram for Muslims. I hope this is what you mentioned.
If that is so, Let me please clarify that point.
When someone get closer to an animal or even to a Human with the intention of killing, the blood of that creature get spoiled or getting poisoned. That was the reason during the slaughtering, the blood need to be drained until it finishes. To ascertain this practice done for the perfection, the consumer is more concern about, how the slaughter being taken place.
Haram & Halal : Is not for only eating habits. It has a wider meaning. Example, if I write something against you for nothing, that is also called Haram. So I am very concerned about it as well.
Prophet Mohamed Sallahu Alhiwasalam has not had proper food for weeks during his life time. Most of the time His life & food style was simple with dates and milk.
(Islam says to fast on Mondays & Thursdays) like I am fasting today. Also there are three days in a month can be fasted as well) Apart from 30 days of fasting in Ramadan, additional 6 days can be fasted as well.
I have lot of respect about your writing and knowledge. However, in relevant to politics, law, constitution, parties, etc., I have respect for all of them. But, I understand all these regulations are done by highly educated people. If so, why when I tune my radio for news, From the beginning to end its talk about murder, bombs, killing, massacre, refugees, coup etc., etc.,
This all happening after the man-made rules and regulations were in place.
My point is, countries are made by people. Country cannot make people. If you see any one need to migrate to Britain for an example, they scrutinize about the complete profile and the eligibility of that person to live there. That’s why most of the good and educated people have already migrated to those countries. The systems are in place to practice, not to talk or write only.
Dear Equin0x,
I stand to my point that your post are slanderous against India and on top of it your post can't be backed by facts from recorded & documented history.
Both, India & Pakistan have tons of internal issues. Every body should mind their own countries issues rather than poking others in a peaceful forums like QL.
Dear Mufti Shahid,
You are correct when you say "most intolerant govt." they came to power due to anti-corruption & anti-incumbency of Indian National Congress (INC) and focused marketing strategy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aka Narendra Damodardas Modi.
They only got 33% of total electoral vote and till date BJP are not able win any of non-INC ruled states.
Therefore we have a healthy democracy.
Dear acchabaccha,
You are right to an good extend.
This kind act is done by all governments around the world.
Leaving aside emergency period, India has got a most intolerant govt. since 1947.
So, the Hindu fundamentalist right wing BJP is following a double-face policy. While it is a criminal act to slaughter a cow for local consumption of beef and people are being lynched based on rumours that a cow was slaughtered, it is okay to slaughter cows in India for export purposes. It simply means that foreign exchange income can make a government look the other way when a crime is being committed in their country with their tacit knowledge!
Mary Vani,
Mind your words, we are here to reason with certain amount of decorum and decency without taking it personally.
Your provocative comments are really annoying sometimes, and give a bitter taste to the readers instead of enriching the blog. That also auto triggers tit for tat response.
We want to see your tons of information that is under your belt for the benefit of everyone, but yes with unbiased and polite tools.
Export is a different case altogether. Why are citizens being killed and tortured for just consuming beef. It is against personal freedom. We boast ourselves to be a democratic and secular country, then why all this intolerance in the name of cow.
Are we trying to compete with our neighbor in religious fanaticism.
Dear Mufti Shahi,
The current Hindu fundamentalist right wing BJP Government banned local consumption of beef but kept the export open.
Thanks to this "Pink Revolution" India is one of the worlds top exporter.
Due to ban price in local market has fallen so now Exports are getting cheaper meat to sell at international market price.
Dear britexpat,
Believe me, now a days I am just waiting Equin0x slanderous post.
Love & regards,
Mary Vani
Mary
Two wrongs dont make a right. If we have a problem, just accept it. No need to justify.
I love these "our country is righteous and yours isn't" discussions ...
Mary,
As usual your comments are going in another direction.
However, your comment on belief is OK, but due to our ignorance, we are trying to know any logical reason, behind it, if any.
Dear Equin0x,
India is secular country which allows practicing of all religions.
Therefore the people has to respect each other's religious beliefs & sentiments.
As cow is religious to Hindus and the flesh of swine, many other animal and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah is forbidden (Haram) in Islam.
One should not question why one animal is holy and why one animal is forbidden when all animals belong to god because its ones belief and faith.
In the Article 19 & 19 (A) of The Constitution of Pakistan it mentioned that every citizen shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression then why is there Blasphemy laws (sections Penal Code § 298, § 298A, §298B, § 298C, § 295, § 295A, § 295B, § 295C) which contradicts Article 19 & 19 (A) of The Constitution.
Over 60 people accused of blasphemy have been murdered before their respective trials were over, and prominent figures who opposed blasphemy law, Salman Taseer, the former governor and Shahbaz Bhatti, the Federal Minister for Minorities have been assassinated. Since 1990, 62 people have been murdered as a result of blasphemy allegations.
Love & regards,
Mary Vani
Why some still consider Cow, Monkey and Elephant higher than the human beings, whereas God has given all creatures on earth, under the human submission.
It makes all of India ridiculous just like all those countries that are run under religious laws. Medieval thinking and behavior. All we have to do is wait until they've killed each other. Have patience.
India under current right wing govt. is becoming a sick place to live in. Why should govt. interfere in what one eats. Whether it is beef in India and pork in Pakistan, state has no right to poke its nose in peoples food choice.
This is probably a misunderstanding .. A lion does not lie down with the sheep in the shade of a juju tree
Mohamed,
Do not go to Mesaieed for Scuba diving, come back to the subject.
Your inputs on the subject are needed.
Laws are considered blind and equal for all.
Any law that differentiates the people, is set to trigger division and disintegration within the society.
Brity:
I like your point of education. Thank you for that.
Btw: The education I may propose is different. I.e. Education to develop character, at least at the first three years of schooling. Need education about manners, respect, living together, Oneness of all. This will make people to think a wider world. We know the world is belong to Human and some way or the other we see people are transferring one corner to another for different reason.
This reflect human search for much better place for his living. So, thinking broader and wiser is much important. The smarter and a qualified person will have his place legally where he wants in this world.
Note a True story:
Just opposite of my house there is a shaded parking slot which was belong to a government office and did not demolish when they restructure for a school on the same place. Since the parking had fall behind the school wall no body from the school users it. I use to park there and some others too park under the tent.
What I see now these days is many cars were parked continually and I can realize the friends of the nearby neighbors from different locations too safely parked and went on to vacation.
Al hamdullilah, I park my car most of the time on the sun and sometime near to my house these days. I wish those people who parked the car under the tent will have a wonderful vacation. And from my side I will never make any harm on those cars. As we know there are many people scratch the car doors or put the wiper up etc.,
The reason for my above writing is,
About the car parking story : I like to think that the parking is not a private property of mine event though it’s opposite side of my house. I may call it just in front of my house.
When it comes to the posted story, I feel it’s a Humanitarian issue. I really don’t know exact story as I am not a resident of that place. However as per the writing Can I be sad about it, Even if I am living in Qatar at present?
(I am heading to Umsaeed and let me catch up you Gentlemen later in the day)
Because it highlights man's inhumanity to man
In what way is this relevant to Qatar or Qatarliving.
Pure ignorance , lack of education and stupidity
Cow, Monkey and Elephant.
Why they enjoy better religious respect than a Lion, Bear and Hawk?
