Creationism or Evolution? Which IS?

azilana7037
By azilana7037

As the American PRESS recalls SARAH PALIN's comments during the governorship race in Alaska back in 2006 that: she believed creationism should be "taught alongside" evolution in schools....

Views on CREATIONISM?

Is evolution a science? Is creationism a science?

This is it...politics mixed with religion :-/

I can accept this, heero.

There's always a teacher for Values and a teacher for Science...

I thought she meant 'alongside' as in one school, not one teacher.

It's like teaching scientology if it's just one teacher. LOL

how can you teach something, heero, that contradicts all "scientific" findings? Your reputation as "teacher" will suffer immensely unless you are a "religion teacher". And religion is a subject in some schools in some countries.

...the real problem is the 'publicity' of her previous actions.

So what if they're both taught in schools?

To be honest, I also read about and was interested in the Ancient civilizations..

They have not only given us philosophy, but also influenced our arts, architecture and odcourse Politics.

I can understand you, gypsy. It must be great for you as a woman to see how the greatest heroes get together to fight for one woman. But I don't understand, on the other hand, that Ulysses pleased you. He stayed 7 years on Circe's Island, he had an affair with Nausikaa, and, and. Dumb Penelope to wait 20 years for him.

I meant our society as a whole MD, not us as individuals. Personally I liked the Odyssey and the Ilaid

It does not necessarily have an "effect" on all of us, gypsy. I read Homer's Iliad at the age of 12 and it made me laugh. I read the Bible at the age of 10 and it made me laugh. and today I read the newspaper online and i can't stop laughing. But the values that I have are not from any of these printed matters. They are from the way people I have to deal with respond to me.

History is all about ancient societies and how they develop goodlookin, if you learn Greek myths, or about ancient Egyptian society, then it only makes sense to learn about Judo-Christian society. After all it had a huge effect on us.

it would, brit. And that's what would be dangerous for the ruling groups. Therefore it is in their own interest not to have too many bright people, like you, for example.

Knowledge and education broadens the mind.. Why not expose children to both at school. Wouldn't it create more balanced and empowered people ?

Well said..

I see nothing wrong with teaching both at school. As children mature, they can make up their own minds. The problem occurs when "we" enforce the notion of one or the other..

By anonymous• 15 Sep 2008 17:40

The people who "create" the curriculum are the ones who decide what goes in. Since it is not centrally governed in the US nor Europe there are curricula which have creationism as a subject.

By anonymous• 15 Sep 2008 17:38

From what I learnt, the school books dont teach creationism....they teach evloution.....and they have questions in exams about evolution!!!

Why?

Ok in the cathecism class they used to teach us Creationism....but only for Christians.

The hindus, sikh, jain, buddist, etc were taught only about evolution.

Why cant they be taught both the "theories" or whatever theory that exists?

Science or religion, who can answer this question? If you live your life according to your beliefs and you survive, that's it. If you live your life according to what scientists tell you and you survive, that's it. It's just a matter of what serves you and makes you happy. For an individual both are an equal choice. A scientist probably will tell you:" Science is my religion".

I learned Creationism and Evolution in my History classes. Our teacher was great, he taught us several different Creationist theories, not simply the Judo-Christian one and then he taught us about early man.

Personally I agree with Palin.

The supposition that there is a God.

IMO (as an aetheist) this should only be taught if/when the child has made up his/her own mind about religion, and should not be compulsory. I have no problem with anyone else and their religion, but do believe it should not be thrust upon naive minds.
