Cycling Team Raises QAR160,000 for Charity Initiative
'The Qatar Standstormers,' a fundraising cycling team, has managed to raise QAR160,000 in support of the Beitak Beiti charity initiative, which aims to support over 200 poor and disadvantaged families.
In its first phase, the initiative hopes to raise QAR 300,000. With this money, it will provide unfortunate families with basic necessities such as refrigerators, air conditioners and cooking stoves.
The group, which partners with the Sheikh Eid Charity Foundation, is representing Qatar in the annual Global Biking Initiative ride in Europe.
They will be heading from Paris to Dusseldorf on June 30 for a six day ride to raise awareness for the Beitak Beiti Initiative.
“We’ve helped poor families in Qatar, brought cycling back to the scene and presented Qatar as a country that produces great teams," team captain Marouf Tirad Mahmoud told The Peninsula.
