Dana Club, any experience?

Gus
By Gus

My family and I considering joining Dana Club, their fees seemed reasonable when considering all other options. Yesterday I visited their site and found that their services are quite good.
Swimming pools indoor and outdoor are both heated in winter, average gym (not excellent), clean and organized changing rooms and showers, sauna and massage are available, even barbershop and hairdresser are there, not to forget their kids activities. I also found the staff upbeat, helpful, and professional.
One piece still lacking: experience of actual (previous) members. If you have any experience with Dana club please share it with me so I can make up my mind.
Thanks

Sure... I think the environment if comfortable for ladies. They have ladies hours for the gym and the pool. And, that even includes no male lifeguards, cleaners, etc. Personally, I don't really care if it is ladies hours or mixed hours so I go whenever I want to. But, even during mixed hours, I think it's fine (unless of course, you mind being the only woman in the pool). During the day, almost no men use the "mixed" hours.

But, if I did care about "ladies only" in the indoor pool I might find it restrictive, since I could then only use it 3 days a week.

this is very nice news! When did they start allowing that?

As I told britexpat, Doha must have changed a lot since I last left it! (a month ago)

Bikini's ok at Dana Club. Anything as long as it is purpose made swimwear, not tshirts etc.

sounds dodgy to me, don't go anywhere where they don't allow bikinis.....how ridiculous!

you are only allowed to swim wearing a black abaya.

Have you EVER seen a woman wearing bikini in all of Qatar?

Dana Club offers a lot of privacy for women with ladies only gymnasium, all day every day. Also Ladies only days in the indoor pool. You will also find that the membership is only open to families and single women, so the atmosphere is very comfortable for women. Hope that helps.

Thanks USAexpat for the info, one question though, how do you rate the environment in general? is it conformtable, especially for ladies?

We've been members for about 2 1/2 years. Our only complaint is that when we joined back then, it was 5000 QR a year, and now it is 10,000 a year!!! Horrible! Particularly because you need to pay the entire amount up front. But, we realize that if we wanted to move to a compound with a pool and/or gym we would pay that much MORE a MONTH... (we're in a flat now)

Kids love the indoor pool so we go often. One concern though is that there are very strict womens hours. Occasionally we want to go to the indoor pool with my husband, but 3 times a week he cannot go! They alternate days with the gym and the pool attached to the gym are women only on Sun, Tues, Thurs... If one gym is for women only, the other is "mixed" so men can always go to a gym if not always the indoor pool (outdoor pool is always mixed).

Staff is very nice, although policies are often changing and the staff is not always kept up to date so I sometimes get frustrated with the inconsistancy when they suddenly switch a policy without notifying us. But, that's life in Doha, isn't it?

See you there!
