The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008)

(contains spoilers)

Stars Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates, etc.

An unidentified flying object is fast hurling towards the Earth and landed on Manhattan. An alien lifeform makes first contact with the humans but got shot by a gunfire. Suddenly a giant 'robot' appeared out of the 'object' and creates panic among every human being in the world with its unexpected chaos and destruction it emanates. Can humans survive? And what happened to the alien?

Got me curious to seeing this one in City Centre because I'm so curious how the remake turned out...as because I'm a fan of the original 1951 movie.

So far, all I can say is this: if you've seen the original, you'll get very disappointed with this movie. Everyone who saw the 1951 movie knows that the classic one is a VERY GODDAMN GOOD MOVIE. If you're a newcomer, you may enjoy it.

thousands were frightened by the radio broadcast of Wars of the World when they thought an actual Martian invasion was in progress!

Halloween 1938 I think.

Like what we had talked with Pope before...

Like Pope said, nobody talks that way again in the modern era of movies.

Maybe I can remind you of some of the classic ones am familiar with if you wanna be prompted.

The message of the original was simple..

Peaceful Alien arrives with huge Robot to visit Earth and tell us that we should stop fighting..

We turn around and try and kill him..

The Robot protects its master. Alien gives up and leaves.. Shaking head in disbelief..

we could talk for hours - problem is, I need to be prompted about who was who in what!

Humpty Go-cart (as we used to call him) was super in most films :D

Probably the Maltese Falcon will be replaced with the Maltese Oscar award.

The Red_Pope is the next goodwill Ambassador to the UN.

I just loved the story theme of the classic one. Veeeery direct-to-the-point, yet very simple. I think few people have seen the classic one on its time, the 50's. It only got a boost of popularity when science-fiction critics and movie critics 'unearthed' a hidden gem at that time.

Now about Bogey...my fave Bogey movie was The Maltese Falcon.

In 1951 it would have been a really scary (could this happen to us??) film! And a classic of it's time.

I never saw it!!

I saw that movie with Miss Pope last night.

I made a smart and worrisome comment to Miss Pope, after the movie was finish; I hope my kids in the near future are never like the kid in the movie. Surely, the kid in the movie needs to understand, 'stay inside, be quiet'. He reminds of me, in my days of being young and restless, driving my father and mother nuts.

Miss Pope was quiet, looking at me with those eyes of questioning, How bad, you was?.

I think that the earth stood still for me, between the ages of 11 and 17, I need to ask my father about it.
