Oh for heavens sake people... this is becoming ridiculous....

http://www.qatarliving.com/node/1162773

Just because he was asking that brits only contact him....

Didn't you understand that he meant he wanted to travel with someone British? Something along the lines of the ads on QL where people of certain nationalities want to live together and not with other nationalities...

This is the second thread that was harmless thats been deleted...

What is wrong with people on QL that they are taking offence to the smallest things?

means I remember why QL was started... and I can tell you, its no longer fulfilling that need!!!!

By Xena• 8 Jul 2010 17:40

here's is what you are offended by:

'The phrase "Tom, Dick and Harry" is a placeholder for multiple unspecified people; "Tom, Dick or Harry" plays the same role for one unspecified person.' (Wikipedia)

The QAWS fire thread was a forum thread - not a Animal group thread - (QAWS and Pet Group are NOT one in the same) so I have no idea why you brough this up... and if you insist, then just following threads recently on QAWS bashing, should give you an idea of why it is preferable to have groups (no group in particular) as "member only" entities (when someone starts a "feel good thread - about an achievement) and then ends up being bashed... its better when you can have some control....

Someone starts a group, because they have an interest - they run the group as is seen fit... if people don't like it, then they can leave the group - take the QLSG - I started that group - there were rules and regulations - when someone stepped out of line they got a chance - if they did it again, they were out - but still had to deal with cr*p on the Group because the people were able to post....

I see nothing hypocritical about having the groups closed - its the admins prerogotive on running the group.... On the forum - people can post as they like - but I do think Mods should first screen what they are deleting...

Xena...I never sugar coat my words...never feel the necessity for that. As for targeting, I think I have never done that and was not doing it here too...and I do not think that not addressing a post by name makes one hypocritical... the line from your post and the opinions on the issue on other thread are just contradictory... which I have voiced in no unclear terms. For the mention of Tom, Dick and Harry, I found it rather offensive as one of the same Tom, Dick and Harry (I consider its offensively used for anyone who is a non member of any particular group) were called out to extend a helping hand when QAWS was in need after the fire disaster. So I leave it to you to decide you is hypocrite and who is not.

As regards, Original Member....I dont understand what makes one an original member and an secondary member, so to speak. For me everyone is just a member on this site and I extend all due respect towards him/ her irrespective of whether he/she is smarter or dumb in comparison to me as I perceive...everyone has its own personality traits, who am I to rubbish him/her. I dont like him/her, I dont engage with him/her as there is no dearth of people online or offline to engage with. And by original member if you are referring to an old timer on QL, I am yet to see something good to discuss (as they keep on saying) from the so called old timers.. in fact some of the dumbest threads have been posted by them. So better not try to bulldoze me with that old timer or original member, self annointed, tag.

and please don't try and sugar coat your words at who you are targetting... its soooo immature....

I am one of the original QLers here, so please don't come and tell me whats what....

Groups were started so that people of similar interest could get together.... When I am posting on the animal group, I don't want people who have zero interest in animals to come along and post their stupid comments... I get enough of that on the QL main forum... If you have no interest in a group, why would you post on there? If you are interested... join to give your 'valued' input...

One of my posts got deleted today , along with the thread!:(

Not fair! it took me time to translate two articles of the Qatari citizenship law in an accurate wording And elaborate which year it was issued and why.

Although the OP could have been a troll, i think that kind of information is useful for foreigners

Thank you MODS!!!

It is interesting to see how certain people take different stands depending on what suits them...in here we are talking of the role the mods should play...more specifically "instead of blocking a thread - they should just delete the offending posts... not delete the whole thing..."..and on the other side we are also talking of "group member only can post on certain group" i.e. to say blocking the posts under the banner of a particular group because we feel offended by some posters and also not allowing or giving an opportunity or reposing faith in the mods that they can handle such trolls, hijackers or any "Tom, Dick & Harry"....lol...but then whoever said " I dont like to see you, but you cannot turn your face when you see me".....lol...shameless hypocrisy at its best.

Ironically I have had more threads deleted here than anyone else but I don't have too many problems with the Mods. Maybe because I myself flag all my threads as offensive :D

I asked for a QAWS thread to be edited the other day - but it didn't get done...

They did 2 other threads though...

I am not saying they are completely useless... all I am saying is that they need to actually read what they are deleting, before they delete it...

WK, It was a thread of saadm about tea where I was fighting with one of my long time admirer who seemed to enjoy commenting on my comments rather than the post itself. When it was getting too much, MODs decided to lock it. Good that they did :-)

By genesis• 7 Jul 2010 19:46

By anonymous• 7 Jul 2010 19:45

which thread drmana. What did I miss??

By drmana• 7 Jul 2010 19:43
drmana

The first thread is not deleted, just locked for comments. Second one was carrying the ghosts of first thread and it was better deleted or else would have gone the same way. No idea about the third one though.

But it would be better if they get "flag as offensive" option for comments back soon. Easier that way to flag a comment rather than whole post.

By Xena• 7 Jul 2010 19:35

but this is the point... instead of blocking a thread - they should just delete the offending posts... not delete the whole thing...

Xena, it wasn't saadm but Myself who caused the deletion of his thread. I was fighting with one of my brilliant admirer there and that resulted in his thread being blocked. MODs not at fault there. :-(

Personally I think those of us not happy need to email Ahmad and Qatari and tell him that them there mods are not up to scratch... I agree JOA.... mods on other forums are known to members... this secracy things is rediculous...

There are several vets, pet shops & even a place in Souq Waqif that offers breeding. Some vets tell people that their pet HAS to be bred or they will get depressed. When a female cat is in season, they howl non-stop for a couple of weeks, and instead of telling the owner to neuter their animal, they say you have to mate her to get her to stop.

Unfortunately no matter how many times we tell people why not to breed their animal - they just don't care. They're not interested in what will happen to the puppies after they have given them as gifts to friends, they're not bothered about the responsibility involved seeing as they'll have a house boy to clean up after them, they don't care about the cost because they'll never have them vaccinated anyway and when we suggest neutering we get the whole "it's haram" story.

We're trying to get the whole website translated into arabic (well at least the policies/proceedures etc) so it's something we can have added in.

I don't know where the thread was and I wish QL would leave them up. Now I have to re-type it all to the next person who asks about breeding.

By Chelsea• 7 Jul 2010 09:30

It was me that gave the info regarding persians :D

Emirates & Qatar Airways won't fly any snub nosed breed (persians, boxers, pekingese etc) because of the added risk. These breeds can sometimes have breathing problems associated with the inbreeding that developed their snubbed faces and there have been a couple of cases in the past of flying affecting their breathing.

This rarely happens but rather then get sued for someone's pet dying on a flight, they've decided to just stop flying any of them altogether.

We're trying to peruade them to have a liability waiver that the owner signs so the owners are fully aware of the risk involved and will not claim QA liable if anything should happen.

I agree with not only highlighting the rules, but also ensure they ate enforced without discrimination. It seems like the law of the jungle at the moment, with important and informative posts and topics deleted and rubbish posts and topics popping up every second. I for one have a Persian cat and have just found out thanks to Xena that she is not allowed to travel with a certain airline. If that is not important information I really don't know what is.

What happened to the dog breeding thread?

I just find out today from a friend , that there is a trend among young Qataris to have their dogs breed.

According to my friend, there is a VET that even provide this service for a charge!

I was hoping that you post a message in QAWS website in Arabic about the consequences of breeding.

what I am saying is that mods don't seem to read anything and just delete randomly.... threads like the one on animal relocation that I have pointed out...

Being busy is not an excuse... if you are given a job to do, do it properly and efficiently...

Don't just take others word for the fact that a thread is not suitable....

I wonder if Ahmad is aware of the way they are moderating or if someone should tell him.... He probably gave them the job thinking they would do it properly, but lately I am beginning to see what people are complaining about... that mods are terribly biased...

thread I was referring to...

http://www.qatarliving.com/node/1154973

I see nothing offensive in it... do you?

By Xena• 6 Jul 2010 20:49
Xena

When someone doesn't like something being said, they just complain to the mod and it gets deleted... I am sure the mods don't even look at the threads... they probably don't have time too... but that not what moderating is all about... you have to read the whole thing before deciding what to delete and what not to delete...

I sent a mail to Ahmad asking why a topic on the Q&A thread regarding moving cats to India had been deleted... he replied that he doesn't know who did it, but it was now back... my only thought is its someone that didn't like me giving details of the pet relocator concerned, which to me means its someone that is in competition or has some business interest in pet relocations...

If this is the case, thats not fair... Mods should be impartial... not out for their own causes...

Few days back, a thread asking about "organisation for Deafies in Qatar" was deleted. May be MODs felt Deafies was an offensive word though it is an acceptable slang used in deaf peoples society.

My guess, someone must have flagged it as offensive.

I have been watching QL for a while now, and there are so many whiney babies on here that just cannot seem to take anything in debate fashion... or answer questions constructively...

Why does everything end up being so damn personal?
