depression is horrid! I Have suffered from it myself you poor thing i know just how it feels! Just try and work out what makes you happy thats what i did! I love taking the time out now to enjoy the beauty and the little things in life! You know like the pretty flowers in the flowers beds, and the birds flying in the sky ( try feeding them that really helps me!) spending time at the beach with my hubby and dogs! i like to get back to basics when im depressed and try to notice the beauty in everything which surronds us!

Hey Junarc, does it happen just in Doha, is it the “Doha effect” or did you suffer back home as well?

Depressed? Depression is a disorder that usually requires professional treatment.

Are you sure you're not just SAD, or BORED, or UNINSPIRED?

They are a lot easier to deal with. You just get off your a**, out the door, and into the stream.

But depression -- that's another thing entirely.

Both a word of encouragement and caution......having been through depression myself, I know how enjoyable life can be having broken through the self-defeating train of thought. If you want advice from someone who has been through it, just shoot me a note.

However, don't let people trivialize the angst that comes with depression. A large portion of the population suffers from some form of depression at one time or another. Unfortunately, many do need more support than just e-mails and a pat on the back. For many it can be a physical issue and not just a mental one....trust me. If it is something that lingers for prolong periods of time, talk to your best friends about it and open up with what you are dealing with....that is the first step. It is nothing to be ashamed about. I found when I talked to others about it, many of them were struggling with the same issue and it became a sources of support.

Best wishes.

Don't snooze before you go to bed.

Your brain "fixes" problems by re-running them while you sleep.

If you snooze you start the process and it carries on if you wake up go to bed.

When you re then lying there trying to sleep, all your problems will flood back.

Fact.

I've got a black belt in being depressed.

Always have, always will.

The only thing that works for me is watching or litening to something that will change my mood, short term.

It's hard to stay nrgative if you have just been laughing at something.

Or watch something silly, boy stuff like the Matrix.

Well it works for me.

Junarc, the main thing is keep your mind active. Depression is all in the mind. So if you are depressed, do something creative - do that home project you always wanted to do, read the book you have not finished reading, grab your camera to take pictures of sceneries along the corniche, clean up you room or arrange your closet - anything that will keep your mind thinking you are lonely and depressed.

As greeker says, put on a happy face.

And here's something from Nat King Cole:

Smile though your heart is aching

Smile even though its breaking

When there are clouds in the sky, youll get by

If you smile through your fear and sorrow

Smile and maybe tomorrow

Youll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness

Hide every trace of sadness

Although a tear may be ever so near

Thats the time you must keep on trying

Smile, whats the use of crying?

Youll find that life is still worthwhile

If you just smile

By anonymous• 18 May 2007 23:41

Very convincing to think the way you think!

Just keep dancing baby!

Once in a while, depression will try to overtake you. The best way to beat depression is to depress depression so much that depression does not dare to depress you until depression is depressionified.

Keep smiling, take a chill pill, call up your friends, plan a party, take a walk along the wakra beach, breathe some fresh night air, write down the things that make you angry on a piece of paper and burn it, listen to some soothing music, confide in your girlfriend, PM your close friends in QL...there are tonnes of ways to beat depression, and we would be happy to assist you in your quest.

last, but not least, know that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

May i bore you with my most favourite quote, said by Swami Vivekananda and pointed out to me by my dad...

"The history of the world is the history of a few who had faith in themselves. Strong you think, strong you will be. Weak you think, weak you will be. Strength is life, weakness is death."

Have faith, be strong. Just be yourself.

I always know you being happy and having fun posting here. Don't worry about it, you will get over that. Don't let the idea of being lonely get over you, whenever I think about that i was really getting upset. There are a lot of friends here around QL who loves you and you love them too, right? How can you be lonely then?

Getting depressed is normal the only bad thing about it is, you feel that all of a sudden and can't determine why is it happening. Thinking of that will let you get into never ending less thoughts and idea that won't help. Man it is not only you who got this, trust me we all do get depressed even more than once in a month.

So live your life, have fun and don't think about the sad things too much. There is always time for everything right?

Hey Junar , how are you ? i see that i'm not the only one getting depressed , you just have to calm down and try to find out why you are feeling down . A lot of people get depressed for reasons such as family trouble, or a general negative outlook on life, and in these cases, it can be cured by talking to someone, even on the internet , but some people just get depressed for no reason whatsoever, and this can be worse, because they dont know why they are , and they see that nothing could cure them from this , but it's not true , you could always go and see your doctor , or go for a short break , don't ever stay alone , try to be always with friends or relatives , i'm sure you will forget this depression and you will feel much better . Becarefull from depression tablets , that will never do you good . And another thing , don't ever look into the mirror when you are depressed .

Good luck

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong
