I've noticed of late his title has changed from "Heir Apparent" to "Deputy Emir". Is this a promo? Does it reflect his (Tameens) more certain accession?
Not trying to be a sm**tarse, genuinely curious...
Are you refering to the English or Arabic newspapers as the Arabic newspapers contain much more information generally about such things? I have noticed the English dailies in Qatar are quite poor at this.
HH the Crown Prince has a portfolio of projects that he works on. As he has grown in experience this has naturally increased.
Question then, given the Emir's age and general poor health, they must then be grooming the Heir Apparent for greater responsibility when the Emir passes on. Would this explain his higher profile recently in the news?
Deputy Emir is the title HH Sheikh Tamim (Crown Prince) uses when HH Sheikh Hamad (Emir) is out of the country. In effect he is deputising for HH the Emir in his absence.
Hmmmm, but that's not what I meant, it just seems that recently he has taken a more active role in the promulgation of rules and laws. The whole thing with compulsory military service for Qataris, it had his name all over it, whereas we had never noticed that before.

Just in the English papers-it seems that the reporting on projects has become more common over the last few months than it has been in the past.

Mmmm, have heard others ask the same question, and he seems to be more involved in promulgating regulations recently too.
interesting .....i would like to know too
