A divorce in every 27 hours, says study

DIVORCES occur in Qatar at a pace of one in every 27 hours, mostly in the age group of 25 - 29 years; and the initiative is mainly from the male spouses. Most of the female spouses who are either university graduates or have completed the secondary school level studies prefer to live as singles independently after divorce – these are the findings of an intensive research conducted by Dr Omar al-Farooq, a consultant psychiatrist and a specialist in education, according to a report published in a local Arabic daily.
Dr al-Farooq said: “There is a very urgent need to look into the causes and effects of divorce in Qatar. Why should young men and women who are in the prime of their youth decide to divorce at such a young age and thereby create a permanent legacy of pain and anguish for the rest of their lives?
“There should be programmes for creating awareness among the youth on the importance and advantages of marriage. These programmes should cover pre-marriage and post-marriage period and ensure that the youth from both sexes who decide to get married understand the sanctity of the union.
“It is rather unfortunate that well-informed and educated males who are university graduates should decide to break the family unity and decide to divorce after several years of married life. It appears that illiterate males are more stable and devoted to their married life.
“It is noticed that most of the divorces take place within the first five years of marriage. And there are quite a number of incidents of divorce after engagement. It is deemed in Islamic Shariah as regular divorce in spite of the fact that the consummation of marriage has not taken place.
“There is the other phenomenon of spinsters who constitute nearly 35% of unmarried females in the GCC countries.
“Among the remedies we should consider is to include in the school and university curriculum “the culture of family” as a subject. Many TV serials that depict negative aspects of marriage should be banned. Social counselling should be a regular feature in schools and colleges.
“In conclusion it should be understood that divorce is a bane and a slur on the society. It can seriously affect the social fabric of the country.”

I think it might have to do with people rushing into marriage thinking it will be all roses and breakfast in bed, only to be hit with the reality that there are alot of hardships and compromises to be made. So what do they do ? take the easy way out...divorce.

Why ppl divorce ??

One reason can be that they might have got a better offer from other competitors..

The main reasons for this problem maybe

1. Couples have more money, making them less dependent on their families for support.

2. Wwomen are becoming more economically self-sufficient than ever before, making them less dependent on their husbands.

3.  Probably most notably, Western influence has become more in Asian/Middle eastern culture, making the traditional marriage not good enough anymore.

The divorce boom partly reflects changes that have made it easier to leave marriages everywhere:  laws loosening and women gaining financial independence. But there is perhaps another, more amorphous factor behind the change. If divorce is rising, it is because of an underlying transformation of love.

Couples want love, instead of just approved baby-making.  The only way they can break free from traditional cultural norms is to distance themselves from their parents and extended families is by marriage.  While it's easy to look at a rise in divorce as a bad thing, I think it rarely means that more marriages are failing. It means that just as many marriages are failing, but now the parties involved are empowered enough to do something about it.
