DO NOT buy pets from the souq

I admit, its my mistake that I bought a pup from the souq. I had earlier tried to adopt a dog from pet centres. but everytime i went looking for one, they treated us real bad and they spoke like they dont want to let the dogs to indians. they preferred to give away the dogs to europeans rather. they were ready to give only salukis and i was looking for a better breed to adopt. i lost hope as the pet centres stopped responding properly whenever i called. i was desperate for a dog as i have lived with dogs all my life and finally chose to go to the souq and adopted a very cute pup. two days later she started diarrhea and we found out she has corona virus. she is now admitted in a vet center here and they said they cant guarantee that she will survive. i already spent 3600 rials for her treatment. more to come. im worried. please please dont ever buy a dog from the souq. they are infected. they'll just cause you grief than happiness. they wont live too long.

I also bought my Persian cat kitten from the souq. After a few days he was being sick all the time. I took it to the vet and he said the cat had 50% chance of survival. With a lot of care and medicines, thank God the cat is alive today. Some veterinary centres are better than others.

The doc just called in to say that my pup died. It is really sad to go through such a situation. All dogs have these kinda virus there.

And to answer sampath1988's question - no, it was not a maltese. my pup was an english cocker spaniel.

i'm an ardent lover of dogs. I did not want salukis because I've previously had terrible experiences mingling with them. i was admitted for weeks after I was terribly attacked. That's when the "pet centers" (like I mentioned as I did not want to name them) stopped responding to me when I asked for other breeds. They kept saying they have salukis. I tried contacting them everyday and they probably knew I was serious about adopting one. They had good ones, but resisted to give it to me. And the kind of treatment I received at these pet centers are ridiculous! I would rather not explain. I have NEVER considered dogs or any other animal as a toy like the user above mentioned. Had I ever treated dogs like that, I wouldn't spend such a ridiculous amount to own one, nor spend such a ridiculous amount to get him treated. I would have thrown away the pup on the streets to die if I were one like that. So, please stop using such words before you know the truth. I said they were not ready to give them away to Indians because another Indian friend of mine was also treated this way when they approached pet centers. Which means this is common and cannot be denied.

The words " pet centres " were used.

Also QAWS doesn't only have salukis, but also some pure breeds, and lots of mixed breeds.

QAWS does have a strict criteria to adoptions, but nationality doesn't come into it. In our experience, Indians make good pet owners - we have adopted a number of our animals out to Indian families.

I do not however like your justification for buying a "better breed" and cannot support your decision for buying from the souq.

Souq animals die! That is the normal situation and the more people that support the place, put more animals at risk of dying.

The more they sell the more they import - They do not care that 3 days later the animal dies - they made their money back from you... and them some.

There are no "better" breeds and no "bad" breeds. The reason why they did not want to give you a puppy at QAWS is because you don't know how to treat them. Dogs are NO TOYS! And what do you expect? You cannot buy a healthy dog at the Souq! Just look how they are kept in these small cages. Of course they are sick.

"they were ready to give only salukis and i was looking for a better breed to adopt."

This is why the adoption centers probably treated you "badly" Dogs are not accessories.

Serves you right for supporting businesses that mistreat animals.

QAWS is always looking for good homes for their animals, and they do not discriminate between nationalities. Either the home environment is appropriate, or else they will rightly not let the dog leave with the prospective owner. All dogs available for adoption at QAWS are up-to-date in their vaccinations, micro chipped and healthy.
