Do people take this seriously, or is it MUSH?

The presidential election bandwagon is rolling and teh focus is on friends and previous colony, the U S of A.

Listened to Michelle Obama's speeach..

To be honest, I find it all rather amusing.. She said "I come here as a wife who loves my husband and believes he will be an extraordinary president," ..

Do we expect her to say anything different?

Extrapolating the few into many/all is very easy to do; and I could ignore your pleas of misunderstanding, just as you have done to others over the last few days.

But I don't want to get off on the wrong foot so I accept that you did not mean to generalise, I just wish you had the good grace to return that compliment to other posters you have labeled 'racist. Indeed there are a few on here but you have been firing at the wrong targets - I expect to see an apology from you to Amoud and Alexa as a matter of course.

Here's hoping you do the right, manly, gallant and honourable deed.

Now I know! You are articulate when we are fustrated and you are level-headed when we are emotional

Thanks man!

I wanted to say that so many times but couldn't find the right words (or was too scared of the backlash if it didn't come out right!).

"I met some very ignorant Americans in my time. I think it is because they have almost everything they need back home and are not aware about the outside world, only a 1/4 of the US population have passports!"

I am rather surprised, saddened and disappointed by your comment after witnessing your robust attitude when it comes to railing against generalisations about Qataris. Are you not falling foul to the same attitude, that you so obviously deplore, when you generalise Americans in such a manner?

Please also note that the respectful language I have used may serve as a pointer as to how to get a point across without resorting to crude insults and derogatory language, that is so prevalent in many of your posts.

It always amazes me how Americans can continue being so superstitious based on old wives tales.

I reckon its the flouride they put in the water here. Apparently, research done during the hitler regime found that flouride (spell check) makes people dumber and more obediant.

They are definately doing something with american water cuz these people are loopy over here!

what i think is funny is that a lot of people in America believe that obahma has been to terrorist training camps...

i used to think that was a joke... until i talked to a few people from back home and they were shocked to hear that i said obama was wasn't a bad candidate at all...

the proceded to tell me how he has been known to harbor terrorist and that he has been to terrorist training camps...

and that's why im surprised America is still around hahahahahaha

I suoppose its important for American politicians to project the "family" aspect..

Its like when people have a photo of the family in their office..

as in the other thread, it must be to counter "stolen election".

I agree with CB, wife should stay low profile before the election to as not to distract attention but should after (if ever her husband won)the election, takes high profile on anything that involves non-policy making activities.

I agree with Brit on this one... I find it pathetic, and if the only way he feels he may get elected, or be favored in the polls is to use his wife and children I think perhaps the general population should re-evaluate what they want in a president.

To be honest when I saw her on TV and listened to her, I thought it was out of place. Her place is on his side and not making propoganda of her own, she should keep quiet until he has been voted in. After that she should keep quiet too, in my opinion as she is only the wife of the president.

She should support charities but keep a low profile but her recent behaviour shows she has not ide a of balance.

The fact is that she is expected to. Also, the children all properly attired and gazing lovingly at their father complete the image..

My question was - Do people actually get taken in by this?

Are we that naive?
