do u remember????
its time for a bit of nostalgia....for those of us who have been here long enuf.....
back in the day, before satellite TV and ofcoarse when Qatar cable was a little expensive for some.....and before the days of malls and hypermarkets and when "the center" and "salam plaza" were the only place to get our shopping , way before when souq waqif was a hip place to be other than a place where u could catch a nasty sneeze.............we all had our lovely local qatar television QTV 2 ....
i recall with some really nice memories their program list, yes it wasnt world class but it was definately entertaining......(swamp thing, war of the worlds, bill cosby show, beyond 2000, the equalizer, the crystal maze, family matters, sons and daughter...(yuck i hated tht one!) , different strokes, mcguyver, etc: etc:) oh yeah and dont forget the occasional cutting-in of those local boring matches tht no one wanted to see.... :-p
i remember one of those live shows"Majlis QTV" an aptly named program tht was hoted by nick kelly and a lady ummmm i forgot her name....suzan.....something....in a studio tht resembled a qatari bedouin majlis tent.....
they talked abt what was happeneing in and around doha and hosted a few guests.....anyways it seemed to me tht time QTV2 was a bit alive with tht program and their live feed from the most happening place in whole of doha.....DOHA CLUB...... tht was the place to be if u were an expat....
i guess compared to now...qtv2 is dead......or for tht matter the good ol doha tht we miss so much!!!
I dearly miss those old days. Doha was a sleepy town at that time but it felt so homely...
here are some of the name of the famous names of QTV anchorpersons that I can remember:-
Nick Kelly
Gina Coleman
Lucy .....
Dick ....
And my best TV shows used to be:
Mind Your Language
Diff'rent Strokes
Ripley's Believe it or not
And of course Thursday night (Indian movie on QTV English channel and English movie on the Arabic channel) which used to be a family event.
Why you have forgotten the great program aired during Ramadan - The Master Mind (Quiz)
Before Nick Kelly my favourite newsreader was there ( I forgot his name but he was the best I have ever seen). They used to telecast a Hindi movie once a week. I forgot to mention about the antenna which I used to turn to get clarity for the tv before the antenna rotator came to the market.
Darn you ... you forgot to mention The bold and the Beautiful and how about the silly cartoons that they used to show at that time"Adnan wa Lina" and "Open sesame by 4 pm daily" and one of my favourite was "Captain Majid" and "Mazinger and Maher adventures" I loved aphtodite and her missle B**BS Jeeeeeeeeeeez .. it was really boring days .. somedays i couldn't find anything to watch or to do .. and i didn't have a choice but to play on my computer which was DOS operated and you have to insert a Disk for every game and type every single damn thing by yourself to start a game istead of clicking few click away ..
