I would highly recommend going for a Toshiba. As of now the market prices in Qatar for Toshiba have dropped to match (even better now!) than HP.
Been seeing few great ads from Toshiba in the Gulf Times just before the weekend and was surprised to find similar specs models in HP more expensive than Toshiba!
HP is a good buy too, but it seems the great demand for HP laptops is getting to their heads and they have slightly increased their prices.
Dell is a good brand too, but I just dont like the look of it. However, one that everyone seems to have missed is Sony Vaio. It's really built sleek, great designs and have good specs. But the price that you have to pay for it is really too much. My wife is crazy about Sony Vaio's and she's gonna pick one from the US as its far more cheaper there.
All in all, I'd say a Toshiba or an HP. Check out Carrefour for great deals on offer.
Definitely not apple! Way too overpriced, and obviously, runs on a crap operating system (goes without saying, I hate Apple products :D )
I own an Acer notebook, it's been pretty good but I wouldn't recommend acer. I know quite a few people who've had some really bad problems with Acer back in the UK.
2 hours ahead of you over there in sunny Doha so thinking of grabbing a bite to eat.
Bet the QL gang will be well into their cups down/up at The Orion by now lol
