Does anyone know the diffrent types of snakes in Qatar?
I was recently out in the desert camping with some friends and their familys, near where we were camping some of the people on quads found a snake. they simply turned off their quads and walked over to look at it, when I joined the group to take A peek a saw a snake, close to the colour of the sand, with an oddly shaped head. I would have willing picked it up for a closer look but I already had one accident in the desert, and I wasnt sure if there are any poisenous snakes in Qatar. We also saw many little lizards which a few people in the group said looked like bearder dragons. they had a black tipped tail. I was just wondering for curiousity sake if anyone knows the types of snakes and the type of lizard this might have been. the snakes head was almost a round shape, it looked really wide and flat compared to other snake heads iv seen. Thank you :)
Must be ‘Cerastes Gasperetti’(Arabian Horned Viper)
I agree the 4.5l V6 and 5.7l V8 are indeed powerful snakes. You might wanna check out a powerful hybrid V8 snake, I believe its called a Mustang Cobra.

I don't often go to desert. But the few times i've been there, i never saw any snake. But i've come face to face with snakes a couple of times in my sites (construction). But these snakes happen to be the same; shape, size, and colour. The finger size gray colour snake. With a length of about 2"9. Most of you may have seen it, or maybe not. The name is Coluber Ventromaculatus. It's non-venomous and poses no danger. It's actually common in Qatar. But the bottom line is, when i see a snake, i either escape from it, or hunt it. Beware of snakes!
Whoofff... scary.
Don't like snakes, you are right Jam, any kind of snakes, we should run!
when you see a snake you should always run!
it doesn't matter what type it is.
Varieties of LR are also in Qatar which are better than LC. None of these are poisonous but powerful. LCs come with only one look where LR in different look and color.
There is also a snake that although is not poisonous is very powerful and could cause severe traumatic injuries.
It's called the LC snake, and this specimen can be found in two versions:
4.5l V6
5.7l V8
I'm sure if you Google you can find out what type of snake it was :)
You have Vampires.
What snakes??? There are snakes in Qatar? S**t, I have to go, I hate snakes! I will go in my homeland, Transylvania, there I feel secure....
You can't teach experience...

Well that has just freaked me out. No more desert for me. I hate snakes.
The snake you saw was probably a sub species of the sand viper (Cerates ceraates ) a small venomous viper that is quite common , it depends on camouflage to escape detection by both predator and prey .
It's venom is mainly cytotoxic it attacks tissue and blood vessels and cells , it causes extensive bleeding from the wound and is very painful , though fatalities are very rare .
There is also other venomous snakes in Qatar , the walternesia aegytia , the black sand snake , much more venomous though much rarer than the sand viper and there is no anti venom for the this species .
Indian Cobra have been recorded in Qatar , though now extinct as some were brought with natural fertilizer from India .
The Saw Scale Viper is supposed to be here though never officially recorded , it is also extremely venomous , and has an attitude to go with the venom .
I hope this information is helpful
Aha...awesome...Im kinda glad I didnt pick it up as well. It wasnt facing me and iv cought snakes before but theres still that risk. I thought I heard a rattling sound as it sorta wound away, but I didnt see anything on its tail...thanks
poisonous..good thing you didn't pick it up. I'm assuming like most vipers, the head would be triangular shape.(which might be the almost circular shape you mentioned as they are flat headed also) Might ask Darude..he goes snake hunting..
