Doha Bank

I opened my account with DB long time ago only because it has several branches all over Doha & I can go for any facility in any branch near to my home or office or as per convenience. Last year wanted to make a draft & went to Town Centre branch where I have account but they said its done only in Main or some other but not here. That was very unconvenient but instead of jumping branch to branch I used my credit card & got done with the work I required.

Today, I was in City Centre branch & wanted to have my last salary statement signed & stamped but the lady over there told me that your branch is the only authorized to provide you with this. I really felt bad but the lady was so polite & apologized for this inconvenience, I left showing my dis-satisfaction for the bank services & branches.

I do not understand, why do we always have to go back to our own branch for any particular services, they should have an access towards their customers accounts to facilitate them.

This was the second bad incident today I faced. What you have to say on this.

Service wise they are not good, I gave my address change application to one of the branch & they said u've to go to your own branch. When I went there, which is in Town Centre, & gave my application twice on different occasions, to till date its not amended :) Isnt this funny.

I must admit although I've only been into the bank a few times I found that staff have bent over backward to accomodate.

Are you sure you are saying Please and Thank You. Ive noticed Indian/Qataris are very receptive to preamble.

Doha Bank is certainly not the best but other banks are not great either. I account with Doha Bank and it is mostly disappointing but horrible was the CBQ. I still think that banking with them was a sheer case of naivete. They simply can't deliver, but promise a lot. To quote one of the few service related incidents in 3 month relationship... How annoying it would be when someone phones you to collect your ATM and you show up to learn it is not ready. And the following morning someone form the bank phones you again to tell you that you did not show up! And when you say I did and it was not ready.. person insists it was.. but agrees when you become more assertive.. and says 'I'm sorry for not keeping it ready'! I had to talk to Deputy CEO becoz head of the premium banking (Sidara) could not even guide me on closing accounts.

SCB, UBL and ahlibank are also non-service champions.

alkhaliji has been a quite good experience so far. HSBC is fine too.

Doha Bank branch people are quite trained for not picking up the phones.

I think we should always have a friend in banks, insurance companies, electricity, airlines and Qtel if we want to avoid becoming super hypertensive!

Yes, thats true you have to turn to your home branch for these services,, believe it or not even if you want to depostit you need to turn around to your home branch..

One thing i appreciate and like with doha bank is their debit card.

wherever i use the debit card overseas i am charged precisely for the money used (shopping or ATM withdrawal) with the current exchange rate and not a penny more on any service.. so this is great having the bank in your pocket. highly recommended for travelers, as travelers cheque are history.

I also happened to walk over to main branch for each and everything, where parking is very difficult , and all the way drive to Doha, even after that we have to take a token and wait looking at customer care reps, who least care about the waiting crowd, sometimes for a very small thing also we have to take a token and wait there! when it didnt work, we become terribly disappointed, I observed theres no any responsible person for any matter in DOha bank, if something happened rarely it can be corrected, and one more thing, the callcenter is useless, you can know about balances from them, thats it! what they always say is, "Go to the brach sir". But sometimes online banking massages do work, I dont know how to deal with a such bank!

My loan rates are very clear and are also fixed. _____________________________________________________

My Interest rates changed after the first installment ie from second month onwards. Theres no such loan as fixed rates, atleast it was not mentioned when I took the loan.

I had to make not less that 15 visits to the branch before I got my release letter.

Again, did he read the fine print? He didnt take a fixed interest loan apparently and opted for a lower interest rate which, if the contract was read through, there would have been a clause where the loan rate was subject to change either for international loan rates of it may have been specifically mentioned that the first year interest would be X amount, the second year Y amount etc.

One of my friend had two loans, with different interest rates, on at 9.49% (loan started at 6.75%)and the other at 11% (loan started at 7%). Both loans were personal loans, what logic can explain that.

consciouseffort! me too had a bad experience with Doha Bank and I decided to close my account with them!

By the way you didn't share the first bad incident you faced today.

I have also done bank drafts and statement stamping at branches that do not hold my account.

As for loans, I cannot stress enough to people to read the fine print. Banks arent charities and are looking to make as much money as possible. Any bank in Doha will give you a hard time when you want to switch over loans as they are loosing capital. I liked Doha banks loan scheme as you have a lot of options and you can buy out your loan at current cost anytime.

I would request all QL'ers, never to get a loan from Doha Bank. They have strange rules when it comes to interest rates on personal loans. They lure you with low interest rates, once you take the loan they increase the rates.

Once I decided to switch the loan to other banks from this bank, my ordeal started. The service with the smile moto just melts away.

STAY AWAY from DOHA BANK
