ppl in gulf area believe that huge buildings and sky scrapers are the epitome of development.. I had a short visit to Qatar back in 2000..there were less buildings, less crowd and a very peaceful and homely feeling about it...I was shocked to see the transformation when I landed in Qatar in 2009.

Yep good old days, when the Sheraton could be seen from miles away. Only the Sheraton and the post office building were big in that area. When traffic jams were non-existant and rents were reasonable. Playing in the park next to the Sheraton as a kid. Good memories.
I came to doha in 1976 when I was only 4 years old.
I grew up in Al Muntazah area. I left Doha for the US in 1989 and have not been back since.
Doha seemed to me so huge when I was there, but now by looking at the map, it's only a 5-mile radius city, smaller than Chicago downtown if I'm not wrong.
i was born in Doha-Qatar way back in 1979... the land of water and sand.. Centre and later on Salam plaza was the in place... spend whole of my childhood here, studied at PAK SHAMA SCHOOL, started working here, got married and got my first baby here and he's studying here also... life will go on like this....

I think I am going bonkers, I see the two pictures, eyes keep roving towards the old doha as opposed to the new glitzy one... weird.

Quite depressing, hate to imagine it in 1984.

I can't wait to see Doha again.
I remember when Doha was called "sleepy little Doha" or even "Doha-ha-ha . . . " No more!
Remember when staying at the Sheraton was like staying at the end of the world? Waaaayyyyyy out there?
nice photos!

Today, Doha is one of the beautiful country to live with...
No modern marbles, except for the Olympic torch!

I've been in Doha since 1986 !
I was yet a kid but I do remember & I really miss the OLD DOHA :(
I was in doha when the first pic was taken! but I was a baby back then!
