Doha zoo

I visit the Doha zoo atleast once a month with my family just to return heart broken and sad.....it just makes me so sad to see those magnificent creatures in such a bad condition

with such little place to move around no proper cages for the wild cats.... birds kept is the worst possible condition.....monkey cages surrounded with filts and dirty water....the crocodile looks its dead the water holes for the animals r so dirty its just not right.....

these people have so much money and land that they can give the Zoo a huge make over

Like make it much more greener, cleaner,Animal friendly atmosphere and some fruits and vegetable shop to feed the monkey's,zebra's,oryx,lama's.......etc so that people can buy animal healthy food and feed them instead of people feeding them popcorn and chips....

I just hope that these people realise soon on how they r treating the animals & do something for their good.......

i agree with the comments above, but given how much money is being earned here, it's pretty shocking how badly many people are treated, and not only the animals.

It is disgraceful how some people treat their animals, people like Michael Vick disgust me.

to hummers i think its much better & funnier if you will throw those people inside the animal cages than throwing things to them! lol!

100% you will be deported! JOKE!=p

In the Philippines the Zoo Authorities prohibited the giving or throwing of any foods or objects in cages that might causes dangers to the animals. You can see this to all the warning signs inside the premises.

The Government established one sector to work & take care the animal rights not to mentioned that theres also some non-government groups that handeling animals issues.

And compared to the Philippines, if this country only like to look & solve this animal problems im sure they can

solved this issues easily.

I was thinking of visiting the zoo so I can throw things at all the disgraceful people who think its fun throwing things at animals - see how they like it!

Oh but I would probably be deported!

This ill-treatment seriously hurts me to the point where I can't sleep at night

I will personally visit the zoo when I arrive in Doha, but I will definitely try and do something if the condition is as bad as people have described it.

that will be nice if u can some how try and get the Authorities to see in what condition the Zoo is in.. that will be a great help....& i looked in every place to get help but there is only one site for animal welfare that is QAWS or (qatarpets.org) but this site is only for pet animals,i didn't fine anything for wild animals.

thanx,

have you tried looking up in the yellow pages, I can't remember where I read about the group in qatar who monitors animal cruelty.

I have never been to the zoo in Qatar, but I am aware they do have laws against abuse of animals. I would try notifying the authorities.

Hi Shining Star,

Thanks for the info.  Since my kids love animals, we take them to the zoo every summer but after hearing all of these, I changed my mind.  There's no way I'm taking the kids to the zoo when we get there.  I just don't want them to see the animals in that type of condition.  It will break their heart.

Have a good day!

I would love to get in touch with amiee and try to do something for the zoo and the animals in it with a little awarness we can do so much...... its not like the Zoo will take on millions off dollars or anything but with something spent on it can also be earned back.....

I went there once and left feeling ashamed of being human. This is the fastest growing economy in the world. There are billions of dollars being earned by Qatar from their Oil and Gas exports, and their fiscal budget is constantly in surplus. Why not build a brand new zoo; one where the animals roam freely and the humans have to walk through chain-link tunnels in order to see them. Start a petting zoo so the Qatari children can learn to respect animals instead of abusing them. The only place in the world where I have seen worse was in Baku, where their "zoo" had a tiny cage no bigger than something you would transport a large dog in, and inside was a young bear that could hardly move. I was so enraged that my wife had to drag me out of there as I demanded to see whoever was in charge. Good job, really, as there was nothing I could do except get myself in trouble.

There was a girl on QL last week (aimee) who was asking people to be interviewed for a research study. I went along, and the zoo was one of the things we emntioned. This study was sanctioned by the Emir, who I believe is truly trying to change the face of Qatar (in some cases, quite successfully).

If it's not too late, I would recommend getting in touch with aimee and expressing your views to her and her colleague. At least it's a start.

I agree shinning star..with so much money in this country,  a decent zoo wouldnt go astray...they could even charge more money and use the money to rebuild it and give the animals space and a decent living...
