Driveing from Dubai To Doha?
By canucker183 •
hello all
Im Sean and i lived in Qatar as a kid in 99-03. In apporximatly 1 year i will be doing a grand tour with my girlfriend accross asia starting in beijing and thailand. I really really want to take her to Dubai and i figured while im there why not zip over to Qatar so i can show her where i lived (i also lived in saudi for 8 years). Im just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to rent a car in Dubai and drop it off in Doha? im wondering what the it would approximatly cost and if its even possible?
thx
ah i was much youndger when i did the drive and dont rember having visas but then again my parents took care of it all. I remeber the waits we use to endure at theborder into saudi. i think the record was 7-8hrs. I guess i wont be coming to qatar during my trip and just dubai which is a shame as i remeber a fair amoutn about Doha and inland sea.
thanks guys
@ kiwi, basically they make it as HARD as it is humanly possible for someone who dares considering driving across borders...banish the thought!!!...the biggest issue is getting that Saudi visa,to give you a little history,Qatar used to share a land border with the UAE,then one fine day their Saudi "brothers" decided that it wasn't enough that they have a country that is WAY bigger in size than the rest of their GCC brethren put together & that most of it is empty, barren desert so they came & took over the 3 & a quarter(or some similar ridiculous amount) km. piece of Qatari land that borders the UAE,so now, because one has to drive through Saudi "territory",one needs a Saudi visa as well...go figure mate! :)
for kiwi - in - qatar , yeah possible but costly in the same time :
first you have to get transit visa from KSA embassy here in doha
in the mean time you have to get exit permit letter to the boarder of salwa for emergency sometimes your name not shOwing there .
get visit visa to UAE from their embassy also here .
some positions no need for visit visa to UAE they give it on the boarder there
same like managers, engineers, doctors ..
better for you go to Emirates airline near lulu D-ring and get the visit visa and the ticket from there and fly .. and rent any brand car you like in the airport of DXB
Is it possible (in our own car) to drive to Abu Dhabi from Doha with my family for a weekend (we ARE married) if we have just a Qatar residents permit?
Not possible for a number of reasons.1. You cannot rent a Car in Dubai and drop it off in Doha.2. You cannot drive through and between GCC countries if you are not a resident of GCC.3. The most important and the final reason you cannot do this is that you will have to travel through Saudi and as you guys are not married their is no chance you will get a Transit Visa.Point 2 & 3 are really not in your favour.Life in the Middleast is not as accommodating as one might thing. They have strict rules and they don't suit everyone.
@ s_isale,absolutely possible, one can rent a car pretty much ANYWHERE in Europe from one of the bigger car rental companies because they have offices all over the EU & drop it off at another country within the EU zone, there is obviously an extra fee for it,but the drive is worth it!...@ canucker, probably not possible out here for the simple reason that the rental companies aren't run by the same people in this neck of the woods, for example, the Europcar agency in Dubai belongs to or rather,is sponsored by a completely different entity from the one here, nothing to do with each other...
not possible. Is it possible to do the same in Europe?
