drive/QL event for the labourers' needs.

angelwings
By angelwings

A few folks in another thread have suggested I start this anew, and see who'd be interested to participate.
The purpose would be to get something going in the way of generating funds to help with the needs of labourers' problems here in Qatar.

I'd love to get a QatarLiving ch. drive thing going. Perhaps even a QatarLiving Ball / Night of a Thousand I's!!... etc etc. Great way to get together and with a 'purpose' too !
I have loads of ideas for that kind of thing..., I create themes for events like this, so no big deal, and its a great way to bolster the funds to pay for help for the labourers needs.

What do you think? Anyone else interested? I'll need to delegate jobs to folks who are good at organising, scheduling, seeking out sponsors, etc., so I'll be looking for folks willing and able in that area.

If you're 'in' lets hear it.

Angelwings.

I added you to my buddy list and will send you a PM with details... thanks a ton. and have a Good day and a Great Weekend (i.e. if you're offline already)

Good morning Colt45, yest I did speak to my son and the boys and they're are willing to play for this occasion. They just want to know when it's going to be held so that they have enough time for practice.

By the way, they play rock, blues and reggae.

Cheers and have a nice day :)

Angelwings, I want to apologize for not being able to attend the meeting last evening, although I really wanted to. How did it go? I hope I'll be able to make it to the next meeting.

I am not really astounded by the response... I expected you'd all come up trumps !! Thanks everyone.

Well, maybe we will have to meet at my house in West Bay, then 'Mufy's' apartment - for a follow-up for those who can't make the first meeting.

The folks we're aiming to help are a diverse ethnic group, but all to do with the labourer force...and of course as was pointed out at the beginning of the original thread re: "everyone helping a little bit" - its one starfish at a time that we throw back into the water.

The topics for discussion are more or less in place, so I should just put a date to it, and see who can come.

I already did ask him on Friday, because of the Nepalese who are at present incarcerated at present(the information to the "Safe House" and the consequences I will post on another thread). I just don't have time today as I am a little busy.

I will ask him for copies of the laws we have to follow. However, the 'donationations' are being asked for, again that should make things easier.

However, I will get the information and ask him to support QL during the planning to make sure we do not overstep legal issues.

We would not like to have to visit QL'ers in jail now would we??? lol

Sorry i was and am a bit tied up with some work today and have not been posting from morning... will start a new thread tomorrow and gather names of attendees for Tuesday... for now we know it's

Corne, Canary, Angelo, You and Me...:-D

By angelwings• 2 Sep 2007 14:21
angelwings

Starting off on the right foot is the first thing we need, so please ask "Dr.Phil. in law" if we could have his input on Tuesday, even if we still have others who can join us for help further down the line.

We will need 'law' people all along, to make sure everything we do is within the law. So his initial input on Tues. can get us onto the right track, and the other 'law' advisors can keep us on track as we build up the momentum.

Now I'm assuming everyone on this thread is coming on Tues. Anyone not coming... let's know now, and you can catch up at the later meetings.

We definitely need to begin with a working group' and delegate jobs from the onset.

Angelwings. ps were my directions clear enough?

I have a friend he is a Dr. Phil. in law and is teaching law here in Qatar he know the laws inside out and has even written a book he would be more than willing to assist.

However, if you think you may have better information and contacts then I will not bother to ask him for his assistance.

By angelwings• 2 Sep 2007 12:00

Can you contact all the troops individually to find out who is coming? A head-count prior to the meeting would be helpful, but not neccessary.

?

I have an alternative suggestion to the collection of funds or soliciting of such. That is, that we simply have a Ball (sic) and the 'profits' will be used for our 'helping hands'. That way we don't solicit or ask for donations. The price of the ticket will simply cover all we need.

Anyway, Cornellian(and Angelo), read back a couple of slots, and get the directions to my place.

Army001 said that he wud cover the legal part and so we can assist him with that.

Good Morning

Ok I checked on some information over the the weekend - we will need sound legal advice, because according to the law, many things are not allowed. I would suggest before putting any plan into action it would be better to get that legal advice - my opinion only.

By angelwings• 1 Sep 2007 22:59
angelwings

Just checking you're all coming on Tuesday. We've got a lot of support coming for this one, and if we can get this off the ground, it will be a great way for the QL folk in general to 'get-together'!! ...for a real 'event'.

I can't mention all your names, but if you find my directions difficult, just do the U turn at the second roundabout and call me from there and I'll talk you in. Its real easy.

End of Ramadan every Muslim is required to pay iftar (one day food for his entire family or its equivalent) as charity. It is estimated here in qatar as 15QR.

If we identify the people in need, we can do great thing.

The challenge is who is that inneed, where is he?

Though the need is great but the giving must not stop. At least you can reduce the number by one.

Don't see it as small, its so big to them.

Yesterday a friend of mine was talking to me in the same lines. It is good to see you guys so touched and feel the need to do something.

I would say Go ahead and count me in.

An advise only: Qatar banned collecting of funds or begging specifically in Mosques and punish by extradition.

QACA Qatar authority for charitable activities is the body which authorises the collection of charity funds or drives.

CBOs NGOs are normally allowed to collect from specific points and means only.

GO slow and know that the number of guys in desperate need out there is so big. Go ask NGOs Qatar Charity, Zakat Fund, Jasim Org, Eid Charity, how many families are benefitting from monthly sponsorship and how many appeals from individuals they recieve? Its crazy. DOHA is full of poverty and very desperate people.

HELP whenever you can.

I left the office for like 3 hours and there are a whole load of people who hoped on here to volunteer... Just GREAT!!!

Porcupine - I used to sing in a band back home and i dun mind jamming in with your boy and his band.. if we can have more than one band... that would be nice... the more the merrier.

Army - You're the kinda guy we need in here to make this happen. We have the vision, but we need the support and the correct know how to go about it.

Canary - you're started already... :-D... will be great to have you on.

I know Rayyz on here is good at this too, but I dunno if he can manage the time slot as he is doing something on his own. But then there is NTN also who was involved in Event Management etc.

So guys... let's meet up someplace and get into the brian storming session. Like AW suggested, we can do the Drive 1st and then the Ball... Yes Muffy we havta take it slow and think this thru well. Don't want any trouble stirring up.

Way to go QL!!!

Good morning,

Perhaps I can help you too:

1) you will need a plan.

2) you will need a plannig committee.

3) hotel slots - perhaps I can help you.

4) you will need a venue it will not happen today (Ramadan Eid).

5) printer for tickets?

6) guests to be invited.

7) for legal questions - I may have someone to help.

8) advertising and invitation perhaps Qatar Living or whatever.

9) donations/who/what?

10) sponsors who?

11) responsible person for advice?

12) menu buffet or what?

13) Overheads?

14) volunteers - who is resposible for what?

15) who are the benficiaries and how to distribute takings?

Probably a lot more but these are the things I have thought of!

What a brilliant idea indeed. Hats off to both of you Angelwings and Colt45. Please count me in too. I'd be more than happy to render whatever service I could. Talking about having a band for the occasion, I could arrange for that, as my son has his own band and they'd be ever so willing to play for such a worthy cause. Why not have more than one band? I know there are loads of musicians/bands out there who'd love to help out.

So come on QLers let's all join hands and make this show a huge success.

Cheers.

I am in! Great initiative. Can support you in any way I can. Me and my excolleagues had done some public charity events like a charity walk and stuff like that. I would suggest you get together all the interested guys together and lets brain storm some thing. I have lots of ideas and can pool in some very interested volunteers from different walks of life into this initiative!

For a legal cover - I have some connections with some charity organizations - I can use them - Plus can use some of the companies that we deal with or if needed by can speak to the owners of my company to give an umbrella for the event. So dont worry about the legal part - I can help you on that.

Pls PM me if you guys do decide to hold a meeting. One thing to note is that Ramadan is coming - so bear in mind that there will be a lot of charity initiatives going around - so need to consider if our initiative will get the momentum we want...
