Driving

I am new on QL and have noticed that its quite popular among residents of Qatar.
I would like to remind people to please drive carefully on the roads and follow traffic rules. Its really shocking to see that people have no respect for fellow drivers, even for cars with babies/ children in them! I was almost hit this morning by a reckless driver driving on 80kmph on a small road in residential area, who did not look at the STOP sign stuck on his side of the road and just drove zipping past me. I drive with my baby (5 months old) in his car-seat, so I don't drive in a high speed and stick to the speed limit allowed for roads, which is why he missed hitting me. Had I been in the same speed as him, he would have hit my car really hard. I expect people to respect the 'Baby on board' sign that is stuck on cars. I was so angry with this driver and would have followed his car to slap him really hard, had my baby not been with me in the car.
I just wanted to vent out my anger thats why I'm posting it here and I'm sure there are many of you that have experienced this situation before.
Please drive safely.

ha ha, qatar had the highest death rate per head of population until about a year ago. The major cause of death of Qatari men under 35 is car accidents. yeah India, lets try and deflect the conversation.

we can't blame any nationality or group, infact we should know the driving tacts and techniques...

to the right turn there's no need to switch on indicator, which here most drivers do...

Most of them you had seen are Indians.

Don't worry you will be one of them after 6 months.

Don't complain about Qatar. India and the Asian countries have the worst driving in the world oh and of course African counties as well. Couple of friends and I went to India on a Tour, my friend broke his Collar Bone in three different places, his leg and 3 of his ribs. Where? India. He got hit by a truck and the damn truck didn't even stop. The driving is fine here in Qatar. Yeah, people go upto 250kph but we can't do anything about it. So don't complain about driving here in Qatar because you can't change it.

So don't complain about Qatar because you know its worst other places.

Nationalities aren't the problem, We are the problem.

My sense, maybe I am in Qatar longer than you, and maybe I have been driving for years without licence and without insurance, and maybe I drive worse than any Qatari? And maybe in all those years I never had an accident. What do you say now?

Ha ha you just wasted 10 mins of your life complaining. Once the average IQ in Qatar gets above the shoe size divided by the salary you might see some change....

Welocone to crazy town and get used to it. On the plus side if they kill you and your kid you'll get to heaven sooner so they are doing you a favour.

you are definitely new on QL.. and I guess, new in qatar also.. you were "almost hit this morning by a reckless driver"?

how about they hit you ON PURPOSE, when you don't give them a way, or when you try to change the lane and you move your car in front of them, and they take it as a personal offence, and they just hit you with all the anger and hatred?

haven't you experienced it yet?

Maybe you are just sitting at your room in the whole day and you don't know what happening along the road. Me? I used to drive everyday from doha to mesaieed..never missed to get upset to those freak drivers (not to mentioned nationalities). Cinnamonz just stay safe with your kids along the road. This is QATAR and always be alert!

err, they wouldn't care even if you have a 50-foot tall sign on your car that says "Baby on board"... some drivers use children as airbags.

Uh, the Indians. But the Eqyptians and the Lebanese and the Sudani are worse. We have a saying: the bigger the thing on your head, the worse your driving is.

thanks for your comments...but nationality is not the factor..and im pretty sure the driver this morning was not a Qatari..he looked Indian to me..and the car also was not a landruiser...it was a lancer..so i think classifying reckless drivers as Qataris is unfair..

I guess you are new to driving in Qatar as well. Just stick to slow lane everytime, and you will be fine (except for people overtaking you from wrong side, but that is ok;you still might be safe)

never heard of any qatari complaining about aggressive driving ... because they assume to be the best driver's... :)

Driving is only allowed to Qataris. I don't know why foreigners still try it. There is a perfect public transport system, busses and taxis. There is also the chance to walk.

even if you paint your car with the biggest Baby On Board sign majority of drivers here will just plain and simply ignore that sign. those morons don't care about safety on the road even if they kill other motorists.

so just be careful as always when driving with your kid.
