Dukhan is a good town. A beautiful isolated compound full of wonderfully people. Nice community. A bit boring for people who are use to city lifestyle.

I have passed on your info to Sally and Jim and hopefully they will be in contact with you soon.
I am surprised they are in France. I always thought they would wind up in Florida. I suspect that they may have teamed up with all the other Qatar golfers living in France, plus one or two from Emiri flight.
If you have their e-mail address, could you send it to me please jaelee? I'm accepting e-mails.
Many thanks

West of the Country.
Doha is East - Dukhan is West.

They bought a house there and moved about 3 years ago. They are both very happy.
Moh'd is still in charge of the course ... a lovely man.
The Clubhouse has been extended again to what you saw before. The decor inside has been modernised .. it's only just been completed.
Thanks for the update. Haven't been in Dukhan since 2004 or 2003 and it had grown a lot then. The golf club had been extended and the top deck finished. The wall across the course was novel.
I had heard from the soon to be ex son-in-law that there was a new gymn. He was an instructor.
Are Jim & Sal still there? Fred never mentions them and is Moh'd still in charge of the browns?
I think you would be most surprised at the changes in Dukhan in the last few years. The Golf Clubhouse has been extended and is looking good. We are getting a new Sailing Clubhouse built .. probably another year away. The old gym was knocked down and we have a modern state of the art place now.
The Mess is now Al Lewan Restaurant and excellent value.
There is a huge new office for QP staff. Its located on the Road out to the beach club .. we have nicknamed it "Tellytubby Land" as that's a bit what it looks like :-)
There is a major programme on at the moment to "beautify" Dukhan.
Not sure how long ago you visited the place, but thought you may like the update.
Thanks for picking up the thread jaelee
I live in in Dukhan. It's about 80km from Doha on a beautiful coastline. We have a sailing club, golf club (diesal sand course), modern gym, Recreation Centre, swimming pool ... even a beautician and hairdresser now!!
There are a couple of small shops for getting the essentials. But you will find you may need to go to Doha to get more variety. We tend to shop fortnightly.
There is now a ladies shopping bus being run every week day.
I can provide more info if you are willing to give us your email address.
One thing, makes sure you have your housing sorted. There is a shortage and if you have your wife with you, you won't be offered the lodge. You want to try and avoid being put up in Doha. This is a nightmare drive to do each day .. even though it's 80km it's a horrendous road which is currently being worked on to make it a dual carriage way , so it's worse than ever.
Good luck with the move and look forward to seeing you here.
thanks for all the advice u have given, still waitin on visa's cummin through, seems to b taken an age........
thanks again.
They have a 'shopping' bus that comes to Doha I believe once or twice a week. It is pretty isolated.
Here's one thing I found from a woman on another forum:
We have been in Qatar for just over 4 years now and enjoy it very much. We don't live in Doha but live in Dukhan, another community similiar to Al Khor about 1 hour away. It's a great place to bring up kids. Plus living on a "camp" you don't have to worry about the Doha traffic, which is horrendous at the moment and will be even more so during the next 12 months!.
I have just e-mailed friends in Dukhan to see if they can answer your questions or if you can contact them.
In the interim, there is the golf club, they have their own social club and pool and the beach/sailing club.
We rode out to Dukhan the other day and it's pretty isolated. I imagine they must have things to do within the compound for employees and their families. It was the only compound we saw. Hopefully someone who lives out there will respond and give you more information. We didn't really see any stores except 2 very small strip-mall type places. Lots of beach though. About 1 hour from Doha with all the road construction going on out there. Looks like they are expecting big things out there in the future.
