Is it just me or does anyone else get really nasty static electric shocks from the supermarket trolleys in Carrefour - its like some sick form of electro shock therapy as I go around the place - occassionally getting a zap from touching the metal cage. If I had a pacemaker I could be dead by now.
Ok, its high time for some terrorist organization to come forward and take responsibility for the sick way of killing people through electric shocks. WE ARE ON TO YOU,YA KNOW!
I think its the not my synthetic clothing but the wheels on the trolly, solved this by taking the plastic basket instead, means I do a few more trips to the store but at least I am not living in electro shock death fear. Wonder if shopping naked would be a good idea - perhaps public decency would not take kindly to such an act - also a bit cold in the frozen foods section.
The car static is normally from the car mats in the footwells - made of polyester for cleaning ease but the motion of your feet while driving builds up a charge - as it cannot go anywhere (the car sits on rubber wheels so cannot earth itself) it is released when you touch a condutor - like the car metal frame.
and I get it when I touch the back of my officemates with the tips of my fingers, top of office dividers, and yes car doors!!
One time I proved this to someone and asked him to hold my back, while I attempted to sort of 'scan' with my hand the car door. Whomp! He felt the surge of electricity and really shocked him! I didn't even touch the friggin car! How I wish I could develop it more and use it to just zap some bad guy, or even my boss as the need arises. haha!
This happened to me in City Center and I thought that maybe there was some electricity in those steel bars around infact I am so much scared that even now I don't touch those bars especially comming closure to the escalator
Correct me if I am wrong Magic dragon, Conductors sole makes sense if static charge is stored in your body but in case if the charge is on the touching object then wearing the conductor sole will allow the passage of current through the body which we will feel as electric shock. Usually I understand the static charges are on the metal objects rather than ourselves
So if I wear leather sandals I will be okay - never thought of leather sandals as safety shoes but guess I was wrong. Does explain why they are so popular, thought it was just fashion but now see the health benefits.
The solution: In industrial settings such as plants or hospitals, antistatic safety boots are sometimes used to prevent a buildup of static charge due to contact with the floor. These shoes have soles with good conductivity. Anti-static shoes should not be confused with insulating shoes, which provide exactly the opposite benefit. The best would be steel soles. You can also hear when somebody comes too close to you.
to me also - and all the time, not just the first time I touch it... so annoying..

I also get massive shocks from my car door too! Especially in the winters. I took the car to the garage because I thought there is some problem with the car. But the garage owner checked it and said everything is normal. Then I understood the problem must be with my body. But the saddest part is nobody believes me. So nowdays I touch my nails on the door 2 or 3 times before grabbing my car door. Everybody thinks I am crazy. But let them think anything. I don't want to get a electric shock like that. One night when I was outside the cafeteria and touched my car door there was a visible spark. The gateman saw it. I looked at him. He seemed very curious when I went towards him. Maybe he thought I must be some sort of electric man!
I get shocks from car doors, escalators, metal trolleys and all sorts of places. Its weird but if I wear leather shoes I don't get them but in my sneakers I always do.

Just touch the object with your (metal)key before you make contact with it.

Don't blame the trolleys and other metal conductors in malls.

yeah, me too.
for me the worst is in centrepoint. i can see the sparks on my finger. Thought once it it left a little burn.
And i assumed that the dry weather is one reason. Was worse in Jul-Aug

The question, eby, is, who built up the statics? I guess, it's the people wearing shoes made in China!

The soles should be 'conductors', not 'insulators'!
