England lost not because they were weaker than Croatia but because Croatia was better than them, a Huge difference....let's not forget that Croatia is one of the worlds top national teams and they reached the Semi-finals in France 98 if it wasn't for the home advantage of the French they'd have probably been the 98 champions....so hats off fore the Croats...good luck.

P.S (I still support England and would never give up)

How about you point out what's wrong with my analysis, rather than launching into an asterisk-riddled diatribe? and by the way, I would hardly consider the thread title 'antagonistic'.

And forgive me for enjoying a start to my day which involved looking at images of Lampard, Beckham, Gerrard et al and the looks on their faces.

Good night.

We can agree on two points......

1.England are woeful right now. Its dire football. I believed since we lost to Croatia away that we are not good enough to Qualify for this competion, never mind win it. England deserve nothing and will get nothing.

2. Some of Englands leading players have attitude problems. I agree. Too much money on young uneducated heads. You make it sound like its all of them. Dont talk about WAG'S either. No one cares about them, if your taking the time to read where they've been shopping, you need to go out more, get a life son.

Ive read the blog you linked too. Very Arsenal. Arsenal play great football, the best in the league right now if im honest and thats great for Arsenal but its no good for England is it. Im saying this as an Englishman who has watched the capitulation of his National team over the last 10 years and not someone who decided to support them in two recent tournaments. Your most famous Englishman right now is Walcott. A 12 Million pound Carling Cup player. However you seem to think the time he spends on the bench will turn him into the next England superstar. The fact is that the next Beckham, Gascoigne, Gerrard or Ronney, may never get his chance on the big stage becasue theyre not getting the chances at club level. Arsenal regularly field a Non English Eleven. Defend it all you will but everyone else thought long ago, that there is no way it is good for development of the National side. Other countries have regulations and its time we did too. Its not all about the influx of foreigners, that i will admit. Without them we would never have been blessed with watching Cantona, Henry and of course Zola, to name but a few. Young English players can learn from these idol's, but its pointless if theyre not getting on the pitch, wouldnt you agree. On top of this a good coach and a new style of football is required if we are to develop.

Maybe your introduction to the post got my back up and pointless comments on WAG's and "drunken antics" set me off abit, but do all us England fans a favour ( because we'll still be watching in another 25 years) and support someone else. Your the type of sychopantic fan that true supporters cant stand. Support Spain or France for a couple of years then move on again.

What myself and (I think) Matt were saying is that English players get very little exerience playing at a higher level as they cannot get into the teams for foreign players.

Lose the foreign players and the english players may get a bit more experience.

Have you ever heard of "local derbies" such as Arsenal v's Chelsea. It's hardly local any more when there are 20 foreigners on the pitch!

Hassan..........you got to take these young players and get them to start to play for England like they do at club level.........you need a team manager that will redefine the way England play, throw out the old players, start again........for sure it wont be easy............you will loose alot of games in the begining but the fans must show patience more over the damn newspapers.......we need a revolution, its long overdue............just takes someone with guts in the FA to do it.....so I suppose thats that idea gone out of the window.........the FA is full of old gutless wonders who dont know SH?T about football

By hassan1024• 22 Nov 2007 17:38

BlackPrince, I agree with you, perhaps that's what people shoud be looking at, rather than putting all the blame squarely on foreigners, which I find pretty uncalled for, not only because the team I support always has to bear the brunt of the criticism, but because such claims are well wide of the mark and to put it mildly, rubbish.

There is hope though, Arsenal have some promising English youngsters in their ranks, obviouisly Walcott comes to mind, but you also have the Hoyte brothers, Lansbury, Connolly , Simpson, and a few others and all these youngsters are being trained the same way as the first team. Ashley Cole is proof that if you are good enough, you will get your chance (even if you end up blowing it all up at the end for an extra 5 grand a week)

Hassan, in the end you are right, there were no foreign players playing for England last night...........we got ourselves to blame but I say again its not just the players, its the type of football England play.........its been out of date for the last 30 years..........just nobody who runs English football has noticed.

We need a complete change of style and this wont happen over night....you need gifted players........we have some and they perform at club level when they are with foriegn players and at club level the top flight clubs play different football.....thats why they are successful in European football competitions. Kick and rush disappeared years ago........but unless we start at grass roots and change the way football is played in England nothing will happen.

@Matty I don't get you, I think I've made my thoughts perfectly clear

How good were England back in the days when the top-flight had mostly English players? How many trophies did they win, or come close to winning? Do you honestly believe that what we saw last night ( a compelete inability to pass the ball into attacking areas rather than hoofing it up to Crouch for one) can be blamed on foreigners? How do you respond to my argument about the attitudes of English players? And How can you justify around 10mil pounds for Ashley Yong vs 2.5 mil for Robin Van Persie?

I'm not anti-English, I supported them during the World Cup in 98 and the Euros in 2000, and found my support waning during the Beckham-Sven era which is when I felt the Goldenballs celebrity lifestyle started spreading. Stop blaming it all on foreigners, English players either aren't good enough, or are undone by their attitudes, or have a hyper-inflated sense of self-importance (in most cases it's all of the above).

There's lots more, I can't be bothered to go through it all, have a read of this if you want

Im glad its all over. Last night was by far the worst ive ever seen England play in over 25 years. Its time to start again from scratch. The only two players that gave 100% were Crouch and Joe Cole.

MaClaren was never an England Manager, he wasnt even a good Club Manager. At least he'll be shown the door.

Its no secret alot of the blame has to lie with the amount of foreign players in the Prem lge. It makes for an exciting league i agree. All the top clubs have accomplished, professional youth academy's, so where do all these young players go afterwards, its not to the big stage is it.

5 Foreign players maximum in the team. Im a Chelsea die hard and weve got more than our fair share of foreigners but for the sake of the National team it has to be done. It wont happen because money talks in the Prem league and its all about the money making business now, not entertainment.

Foreign players, Foreign Managers, Foreign Club Owners, England can only blame itself for selling itself out for the money!!

Hassan1024 your just using the whole thing to spout your anti-englishness. You can smell it. Get some minerals and say what you mean instead of hiding behind this you plank

In the end they didnt win enough matches and didnt play good enough football to qualify. Its not only the players at fault, its the type of football thats played, unfortunately football has moved on since the days of the long ball and kick and rush at the opponants goal. The strange thing is English the PL clubs play such attractive one touch football, cultivated but still with passion. The PL has lots of foreign players who undoubtably influence club football in England but the English national team seems to have not understood that successful football played in the world today and in the PL is different to what the English norm is.

I am not disappointed that England didnt qualify, as a long term suffering fan of England at least I wont have to watch them in the EM, scrap through the first rounds , give you hope that they might acheive something and then watch them loose a match to penaties, usually against Germany.

Its not just the players that are at fault, it is the system which still hangs on to the kick and rush mentality which has long since been given up by most football nations.

Footy is no longer a sport, it's a business.

You only have to look at the pay packets and deals negotiated. I'm sure it won't be long before the likes of Manchester United and the other big teams in Europe are playing in a "Super League".

Who gives a damn about the supporters, I am sure the club owners don't. All they are interested in is profit.

With the salaries top players get today, they can afford to retire after a few years playing and what do they actually produce? Nothing, in common with pop stars and actors.

Agree 100% with Spy, and in my mind it all started with the Beckham-Sven era. As for those who blame the number of foreigners in the PL for the downfall of the national team, just look at those foreign players, they work hard, train hard, and you rarely read much about their private lives ( not to mention their better overall skill levels and technique). At last years Dennis Bergkamp testimonial, I think it was the first time his family had appeared in public. English players are mostly in the news for their weddings, their nighclub brawls, drunken antics and so on.

English players are more interested in being celebrities and getting advertising deals. They've lost their passion for football. I'd advice to stop paying them so much and only have men on the team who have a desire and passion for the game, rather than wanting to be their for the money and their egos.

In fact they were dreadful!

The pitch was a disgrace for a national stadium! It's obviously been over used and goodness knows what foundation the turf is laid on.

The groundsmen trying to get the water to soak away couldn't get their forks into the ground it was so hard.

The sooner they get English players playing in the English Premier League the better.

I read a few weeks back that english players provided only 38% of the starting line-ups in the PL.

That's it, rant over.

Will have to get my Turkish shirt out for the finals

Not competitive enough. They need to be playing on the big stage at club level. I don't like the idea of introducing quotas, whereby all teams have to have X number of English players, but it would work I suppose.

Well, they haven't been awarded the 2018 World Cup yet, but home advantage would obviously help. To have a good team by then they need to look at how young English talent is brought through the ranks. At the moment the Premier League doesn't help young home-grown players, unless they're truly exceptional at a young age.

True talha, but not enough of them bring their A-game to the international stage and until England have a manager who can bring the best out of these players, or find other players who can step up, they will not win a major tournament.
