Execute Me.

Too me, this is the one reason we shouldn't execute him. Why give him what he wants.

Anders Behring Breivik's court statement 'an explanation not a speech', says lawyer Link to this video

Anders Behring Breivik would rather be executed than receive Norway's "pathetic" maximum punishment of 21 years in jail for the bomb and gun attacks that left 77 dead last summer, he told a court on Wednesday.

"There are only two just and fair outcomes in this case," he told Oslo central court: "Acquittal or capital punishment."

He said he didn't want to be killed, but said he would "respect" the decision. "I consider 21 years of prison as a pathetic punishment," he said, later describing himself as a "militant Christian" who believed in the afterlife.

Norway abolished the death penalty in peacetime in 1905 and for war crimes in 1979. On Tuesday, one of the five original judges trying the case was dismissed after it emerged he had written on Facebook that the death penalty was the "only just thing to do" with Breivik.

During his second day in the witness box, the 33-year-old was questioned about his claims to be part of a militant anti-Islamist network founded in London in 2002 called Knights Templar, which the prosecution does not believe exists. Breivik is adamant that it does – and that police haven't tried hard enough to uncover it.

There..Prisoners' cells include flat screen TVs, minifridges, and long windows that let in more sunlight. Prisoners share kitchens and living rooms with sofas and coffee tables. There's a state-of-the-art gym with a climbing wall and expensive artwork commissioned for the prison. At other maximum security prisons, inmates have access to the internet, even in their jail cells.

There , Prison guards don't carry guns. And they are encouraged to be outgoing and friendly toward the inmates -- eating together and playing sports to "create a sense of family. Then , with tennis courts, horseback riding, beaches, and ski trails (prisoners can participate in ski-jumping competitions in the winter at one facility). At an island prison , inmates work on a farm and live in "comfortable wooden houses.

Who can spend 17 hrs at a stretch playing electronic games and liked playing - sleeping - playing - sleeping for one complete year would not rot in a home like prison of scandinavia.

I don't think he should be put to death,he should be left to rot in prison for the rest of his life..Death would be the easy way out for him..Let him suffer like the families of those he killed are..

@John Osama deserved his outcome also

i was reading on wikileaks, the moment us marines shot dead osama, he was having mental card in his pocket, if that is true, its totally unfair to him. :((

By Miss Mimi• 20 Apr 2012 05:28
Miss Mimi

Agree ShallowNation, the media is skirting that. But I think the focus is on his mental state because nobodies still quite sure if he's fit to stand trial.

John Lalay, if they find him insane then he's sent to a state mental instiution for the criminally insane for the rest of his life. Frankly I think I would prefer jail.

what, if the guy pull out mental card in court?

Very conveniently you are not opposing him on his other 'important' wish.

Now that's some good news! I just couldn't bring myself to fathom the possibility of a 54 year old Breivik being released from prison, madder than ever before!

By adey• 19 Apr 2012 14:57

I have heard in the news on two seperate occasions that in Norway the maximum penalty for murder is 21 yrs....however a prisoner can still be kept in jail after that if he is considered still a threat to the public.

So if they want Norway can keep him in jail to the end of his days.

We can pray all we want but it's up to God alone to decide each of our fate. So like it or not,it appears He wishes this guy should be imprisoned and not executed pronto. But I do know that ultimately God is just, and time will tell if this demonic madman will really be let off easy as it seems or have to suffer the same predicament of his victims. And yes sometimes his jail time might be far agonizing than a quicker death.

FatimaH - Sadly the truth is - your fervent prayers along with the prayers of another 6 billion people lead to nothing against such evil people :) Thats the weakness of God IMO :(

Why do people always try to demonize liberals? A liberal didn't kill 77 people.

By bilber• 19 Apr 2012 14:21

he killed 77 innocent civilian..lets think about his victim not for his self gratification brouhaha!..whatever punishment he got is not enough to justify what he did.

as a Muslimah I truly believe that once he actually gets it he will surely not want it anymore, so I do still wish he was executed. 21 years? Oh well if that's what he deserves then so be it,Qadar Allah, but I fervently pray he will never come out alive as long as he is in the same state that he is in. That would be frightening!

By GodFather.• 19 Apr 2012 14:04

But that the beauty of Democracy and open society. sometimes lunatics like him kill so many people and then the liberals might offer him a another chance!

I highly doubt it UK.

MM or maybe he will be released and be given a new Identity altogether and sent back into the Society?

By Miss Mimi• 19 Apr 2012 13:14
Miss Mimi

It isn't just 21 years. After 21 years he goes up against a committee for reassessment and they decide whether he will be released. He will never be released.

By Miss Mimi• 19 Apr 2012 13:13
Miss Mimi

You're right UK, it's really beside the point because he can't be executed under Norwegian law anyway.

BB, he's going to be a cult hero no matter what sadly. Like Timothy McVeigh and Osama Bin Laden.

Miss Mimi says "let him share a cell with a Muslim inmate" - don't think so MM... he would surely kill him with his bare hands he is so twisted.

I agree though that if he does want to die then let him rot in jail - and as MM says, read the Quran to him every day!! Hopefully he will go completely insane and jobs done.

Sorry but IMHO anyone who does what he did deserves exactly what he doesn't want. I only wish it was a life sentence and not just 21 years. He will probably be released and go and kill all over again.

You would have to be somewhat insane to take human lives as he did so calculatingly and cold-heartedly. Just sayin'....

MM - You are hilarious :) You remind me of Gypsy sometimes :)

The point is - After what he has done, he has probably made 100s to followers all over the world. Iám sure his manifesto is in great demand. If you keep the guy alive he becomes a cult figure. If you kill him;his legacy lives on. it's a difficult choice.

See this is where I disagree MN, and not just because I'm anti-death penalty, but he WANTS to die. He expected to die when he killed those teenagers, but he failed. Why give him what he wants? Isn't that rewarding him? Let him rot in prison. Read him heart-warming stories about Multi-Cultural ism everyday. Make him share a cell with a Muslim inmate.

Punish the innocent to protect a GOOF, A NO BODY, A LOSER..A WANNABE

Actually, someone should shoot him in various parts of his body, before the final one that blows his brains out..

Guys the purpose of this thread was to discuss whether he deserves the death penalty because he wants to be executed.

As for this little nugget:

"n these people are not even bothered to investigate on that particular group which he mentioned."

They are looking very hard to find these "Knights Templar" however it looks to be a complete figment of his imagination.

shisha202: Just like TB said. He is a nut-job! PWRIORD!

His claims about anti-Muslim armed groups sleeping cells in London can’t be anymore fictional than the Holocaust.

Don’t hold because he is a nutter.

Why can't you get it?

This is the difference when a Muslim does it he will be 'definitely' from Al-quaeda n these people are not even bothered to investigate on that particular group which he mentioned.

history will remember him for sure, as a bad man or as a hero - time will tell,

There are many such streams existing, based on conflicting ideologies, some strong some nascent, he represents one.

..but…future looks more horrendous to me,

He is a strange man but nontheless a very determined and brainwashed one. He is extremely courageous too and is willing to die for what he believes in. Not unlike some of the more common suicide bombers. Only a bit stronger and better situated to inflict immense harm.
