expatriates Spouses Need License to Work

The First Gift of 2008 by the Government:

SPOUSES and other relatives of expatriates who are in Qatar on personal sponsorship, will be required to pay an annual fee of QR500 to get a “licence” from the Labour Department if they want to take up employment in the country.
Taken from

(KnoxCollege's Comments) So all you people who wished 2008 to be a great, wonderful and magnificent year. It looks as if the authorities did not share our plan. Though Q.R. 500 is not a huge amount but this is just the beginning and 2008 will be full of more surprises courtesy of the authorities. Just keep those belts fastened at all times as the road to 2008 seems bumpy. Make sure to have a bag to throw up in, if the flight becomes turbulent.

who will add fuel to the blazing fire. QL is not an islamic site but there are people who know each other beyond the forum. We should not try to hurt each other's religious sentiments as some one might not take it light heartedly and there are chances that he/she might be present in the next QL gathering.

Though I do not condone people fighting each other physically just because one finds someone's post offensive. And most of all we dont want QL to be blocked by Q-Tel. And try sticking to the topic, though chances are that the effort might be futile.

I've already said that I may have used the wrong "words". I never claim that QL is a religious site. It's concerned with "living" in an Muslim Country : Qatar. The owner is Muslim , and many users are from the same religion : Islam. So, I guess QL has a strong "Islamic " background none would deny this, and none is trying to exclude other groups of people by claiming this belonging.

Here we go again, the religious mafia on IslamicLiving has their panties in a twist because someone said something they find offensive. What a shocker! Call the papers!....Oh wait the papers probably don't care cause fundamentalists with their panties in a twist is such a common occurence now it's laughable.

What's wrong with suggesting the someone who wants to have 4 wives seek psychiatric help? Many religions recommend counselling and marriage courses for people who only want to marry 1 person, much less 4! Marriage is a big deal and it should never be entered into lightly and anyone entertaining the idea of taking four spouses SHOULD be forced to talk to a counsellor to ensure they are mentally prepared for this challenge.

Also Frog, hate to burst your little bubble, but QL is no more an Islamic site then the Doha Airport is a Muslim.

I think what people fail to realise is that they are only discussions and they may get heated at the time but they are only discussions in the end. However, I think it is senseless to dislike people for their views on a theme. Often you will find member with grudges and the come over clearly in every thread unfortunately.

Canary,

Same to you :)

The condition in Islam for all those who would like to have more than one wife is : Be fair. and even Quran states that "we" cannot be "really" fair. However, Polygamy should still remain an option when circumstances push men to do that. ( there are some examples) . Anyway, It's much better for a man to have more than one wife , then having more than one mistress and cheat on his wife. Maybe....having children afetrwards from those other women and never recognize them. Within "marriage" he would be forced to take care of the Wives and their Kids :)

QR10 exit permit fee imposed

Published: Wednesday, 26 December, 2007, 03:24 AM Doha Time

By K T Chacko

THE Ministry of Interior hiked the charges for some of its services with effect from yesterday and introduced a fee of QR10 for issuing an exit permit, which was so far issued free of cost.

According to the Interior Minister’s Decision No. 19 of 2007, frequent travellers can get a multiple exit permit for an annual fee of QR500. For the cancellation of such a permit the same amount will be charged.

As per the new decision, identity (ID) cards have become costlier by 100%. The new charge for issuing the ID card is QR100. For replacing a lost card, the owner will have to pay QR200.

The residence permit (RP) fee for a child sponsored by the parent has been raised to QR400. The same amount will be charged for the RP of infants as well.

However, those who renew their children’s visa for a period of three years will be given a discount of 20%.

Dependants who stay beyond the stipulated six months outside Qatar will be charged an additional QR500 for their return to the country.

The renewal fee for worker’s visa (RP) continues to be QR1,000. Foreigners who invest in Qatar and Qatari real estate owners will also be issued residence permits for an annual fee of QR1,000.

Expatriates may be granted permission to take up part-time work outside after their working hours with their sponsors for a monthly fee of QR100. Before applying for such a permission, they will have to secure the approval of their sponsors.

For transferring the visa from an old passport to a new one, the fee has been raised from QR50 to QR100. To effect changes in the name, nationality and designation, the new fee is QR200.

Those who want their entry visa to be changed into work visa without leaving the country will have to pay QR500. For changing the sponsor before the visa is stamped in the passport, an expatriate worker has to pay a fee of QR300.

Students who get dual residency in another GCC country will have to pay an annual fee of QR500. For employees under company sponsorship, the fee for dual residency permit will be QR2,000.

Cancellation of RPs of dependants will cost QR20 and cancellation of worker’s visa QR50.

Foreigners who want to recruit domestic servants have to pay a fee of QR1,500.

Expatriates who want to change their sponsors will be charged QR1,000 for the first time, QR1,500 for the second time and QR2,000 for the third change. For firms, the fee for changing sponsors will be QR2,000, QR2,500 and QR3,000 for the first, second and third times, respectively.

Business visas, extendable up to three months, will be issued for a fee of QR200 for each month.

Visit visas for relatives, extendable up to six months, will be charged QR200 a month.

Non-extendable tourist visas for a month will cost QR100. Visit visas for GCC residents, extendable up to three months, will be also charged QR100 for every month.

A transit visa, valid for a maximum period of 48 hours, will cost QR100.

A resident who loses his visa while abroad will be charged QR200 for issuing a return visa to Qatar.

I take the right to make an innocent comment without the whole of the islamic world jumping on me.

No one forces a girl/woman to marry someone who already has a wife. They do it will their own will. If they dont like to be in polygmous relationship they can always use their right of divocre by women called Khulah. Moreover a man always has to get his wife's approval before he marries another woman.

You lost all concept of the thread.

You have made a light aside. He has reacted in his customary pompous way. So I suggest that he is beyond reaching or reason.

canary bird said "You need a shrink as anyone in their right mind will not marry four women"

Technically that means anyone who has four wives is insane. (Rubbish)

Even the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) had more than four wives. (19 I heard)

She could have made her point by saying that she does not believe in polygamy. There are two ways to make your point heard across. One to start a fight and the other to do it peacefully. (You were the one wh started this and as I have told you many time knock the chip off your shoulder).

And just so you know, there is only one version of the Holy Quran...

and no one has quoted anything from the Quran so you needn't bring it into this thread...

You said,"You need a shrink as anyone in their right mind will not marry four women - imagine four times the trouble. No No No."

Maybe it was inadvertent, but that is a direct insult on polygamy and anyone who practises it...

You've said everyone who practises polygamy needs to go to a shrink and that they are not in their right minds...

Like I said, you have the right to your opinion and you can say polygamy is wrong, but why does it have to be in an offending manner?

We are all for healthly debate but lets respect everyone as well...

No doubt the government will pick up the tab for those wives employed in that sector.

Incidentally, the topic was raised on an earlier thread asking about salaries for secretary/admin staff.

I made similar (though less well expressed) comments last week - asked Hashin who made him the pope!

I recall that he told someone (was it you) to 'shut up'!!

In 2008 I have no intentions of changing people's religious beliefs, no matter how much hatred they have against any religion. I just expect people to respect the religious beliefs of everyone i.e. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists etc. And this year I will definitely make sure not to insult anyone's religious beliefs.

As for canarybird, I guess we are continuing from 2007? Hope that this year we might reach a settlement.:)

I am not contesting the fact, and it had nothing to do with polygamy so don't put your pocket book version of the Qaran in the thread - I did not say it was wrong please read the post properly and get off your high horse - it was a harmelss comment nothing more - in fact what you are writing here is complete rubbish.

But the fact is Canarbird polygamy is an accepted practise in Islam

and your comment would be insulting for many Muslims...

You have every right to say polygamy is wrong

but to say everyone who practises it is not in their right mind, need a shrink etc...

that is insulting... lets all respect each other in 2008...

Canary It could be a support to four families if one is wealthy ;-)

Yes it is a headache no doubt but Islamic point of view is different !

by the way KC ... I don't see any attack on Islam directly by Canary ? and she addressed to Dardue not in general !

Think before you react ...

This rule is specially for the expatriate and hardly you will find expatriate having four wife.

Second thing this is not only for the wife also any dependent of the expatriate need to get the license.

For example an expatriate having 4 dependent daughters needs 4 license; similarly

4 wife……… of course will require…….. 4 license!....................lol

It's the time when the pocke version of the Quran gets pulled out and references are made.

hashin - what do you mean

knoxcollege started it with his pcket edition of the Quran.

I am not stirring up trouble and even if DaRuDe has four wives I couldn't care less - four wives means four headaches.

In any case it is very quiet here today we could do with a little excitement. lol

Didn't you know Canarybird, this site has now changed from qatarliving to islamicliving, any disagreement with the tenets of islam will end with jihad being declared against you.

As you know I don't find it necessary to name call nor bash people I stand well above all of that. You have a chip on your shoulder as I keep telling you. If you would take time to look at the things that you write it would serve your pusposes better.

This does not concern me as I made no allegation I only gave my opinion about having four wives.
