though I know I earn quite enough as a Bi-lingual call center agent back home, I still opted to go here to Qatar for the chanceof earning more to support my kids and my parents.
What I have to give up because of it? The chance to be my kids & be able to guide them as they grow up. Is it worth it?...ask me again in a few days...
I'm not in Qatar yet, but when I lived in China, I missed the rain.
My hometown is Manchester, and it's famous for raining here, so I really miss the rain whenever I'm away. Rain makes me feel at home.
I used to sit on my balcony at my apartment in Beijing during the very occasional tropical storms and watch the sky light up with lightning and listen to the cracks of thunder -- it was a bit like watching my own personal climatic son et lumiere show -- and I would breathe in deeply, the damp, fresh smell of the wet earth, and feel at home.

I came here from Bombay in November 1979 to join my husband and have been here ever since. It was difficult in the beginning trying to adjust to an entirely different environment; but as time went by I grew accustomed to the place and the people and have made many Qatari friends (men and women) as I work with Qataris. I still love India and wait to go back once in a while and travel places and meet old familiar faces there.
Well, life is what you make of it. So make the best of everything you have.
the neds, the junkies, the buggy brigade, the slappers out on town with there drunkeness ( theres just few people to laugh at out here!) lol! I miss reading the newspaper and learning about what celebrity knocked up who and so on, and i really miss the deep fried mars bars! lol!
no honestly i miss the seasons, the trees, the grass, the wildlife, the wind, sunday afternoons in the pub with mates, proper fish and chips, big brother, after shock, theres heaps i miss!!
I have been there four times and I dig it. Also, the Egyptians I know (four in this office) are really good people. Completely agree with you about patriotism though. It is just as emotive and divisive as religion. I find it amusing when people talk about how great their countries are and how wonderful their countries' history and achievements are as if it was anything to do with them.

ok gypsy gal, this is one of my favorite subjects:
First I don't believe in the stupid notion of patriotism and even in the concept of countries, I believe that there should be no borders and we all should be one
Second those Egyptians you are speaking about are mainly the reason behind of the misery I witnessed in that hideous place, and up till today the only people who are causing me troubles here in Qatar are Egyptians and only Egyptians!!!! I am not saying they are bad, they are just different than me, may be because I am half Lebanese...I don't know, all what I know is that they are mostly bad news for me (again not all of them, and 90% of my friends are Egyptians)

Why do you hate your Country so much? There are many other Egyptians I know who love their Country. Maybe you had some bad experience in your own country, that doesn't mean that it's the worst place on earth.
is here and living in the same place, but still sometimes missing them while they are around. So how about home? I don't miss the people there, I miss the land and everything about that place .. not really .. missing the remaining of what used to be home ... :(
I miss my family for sure...but that is the end of it, I don't miss a single thing in that place named Egypt, coming here was my exodus and I wish never ever to return back there....
because I came in August 2005 for a fun job with Asian Games and met so many lovely, fun people that when I got back to Australia I missed my new home too much. So now I'm back in Doha.
I miss a lot about Australia, but I grew up there and left after 24 years there, so I have time to spend a few years experience in another country. And I love the lifestyle here. It's quiet, my job is low stress, and I have plenty of time to enjoy life - something I couldn't do at home!
Wanted to get away from the daily trudge of trying to commute into central London ...........miss my family and friends, a decent cup of tea...............but its an adventure and so far apart from a few hiccups its going well............
because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone. Should have stayed there!??! Miss everyone and everything back home except for work stress! Almost zero work stress except for sucky boss.
My family is here and I came to be with them. I have a fantastic job and I love it. I miss my family back home, I miss green trees and cool weather, snow, lakes, mountains all of that, but when I go home I miss the call to prayer, the desert, blue skies and palm trees, so there you go.

is Christmas. Then you really feel it. However it does get better as your circle of friends increases.

Work and raising my kids without worrying about their safety and seeing soldiers everywhere. I don't miss it.
