F1 Rumours - Mercedes to buy stake in Brawn!

The signs are growing that McLaren and Mercedes-Benz are headed for different futures in Formula One.

The companies had already parted in terms of their joint road sports car programmes, and reports have intensified throughout this week that a similar split is looming in terms of their 15-year F1 collaboration.

Both the German language Blick and Auto Motor und Sport publications report that Brackley-based Brawn GP is set to be 75% owned by Mercedes by 2012.

McLaren has a contract for exclusive works rights until the end of 2011, so until Mercedes can buy Brawn itself, the Daimler AG shareholder AABAR of Abu Dhabi could hold the stake, Auto Motor und Sport said on Thursday.

"If we wanted to change anything with our Formula One commitment then we could certainly speak with Abu Dhabi," Mercedes parent Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche is quoted as saying.

Auto Motor und Sport said contracts with Brawn GP are to be signed shortly, with a deal to include a silver livery from 2010 and the Mercedes logo on the engine cover.

Brawn's new title sponsor is said to be a German company, and 24-year-old German Nico Rosberg is the favourite to become Jenson Button's 2010 team-mate, the report added.

For that kind of bob I want a raging bull on the hood as well, even if that same raging bull was rather disgraceful in F1 :P

drsam: I doubt even this new road going McLaren will have an in-house engine. Don't hold out for McLaren F1 to do it either, they've never had their own engines, but this whole engine deal is a bit deceiving. Ferrari builds their own, granted, but they've been around forever. The rest of the big names usually farm out the development and manufacture to smaller companies like Ilmor, Cosworth, Mugen etc.

They are aiming for a price range of 120K to 150K sterling... So, there's only so much they can do :O)

after the Alonso debacle :D

Perhaps, but when you buy a car like that it isn't just for sheer driving pleasure. It has to do something for ya when you just look at it. That's one thing Brit supercars have been guilty of lately IMO. The Nobles in particular, monstrously ugly. No XJ220s or McLaren F1s in the slightest :(

Can't stand Hamilton after the way he backstabbed Alonso.

The MP-4 doesn't look too bad. From what i've read, its designed from the bottom up. Meaning that they designed the engine , gearbox and suspension first and then came up with a body to go over it.. So perhaps that's why the shape has been "compromised"

Does that mean Etihad stops sponsoring Ferrari? Don't they have some Ferrari themed real estate development in AD?

Ahh, rumour season is in full swing. For the record, I don't like Kimmi. I didn't like the ice-man (Hakkinen) at the time either but in retrospect he gave the sport some much needed character in the days of clean cut Schumi, boring Dill, and rather annoying geek J. Villeneuve.

I'm sorry to see Rubens go but he's been in F1 for the best part of forever. If Alonso, the single most repulsive egomaniac of F1 history (and I'm sure that says a lot, considering the sport) ends up in the sacred red cars I'm done with them forever. I'm sure they care a lot for my feelings but I like Brawn quite a bit already, and I have a very soft spot for Button. Seems he'll be moving his Gulf retreat from Bahrain to AD pretty soon hehe. It would be a shame if they lost the white, black and yellow livery. After all, what team won F1 with chassis 001? Not many I'm sure.

brit, why the hate for Lewis? Anything in particular besides the whining? I've been out of the loop a bit. I thought he was a mellow li'l chap, maybe a little overexposed because of his age, looks and ethnic factors, he never seemed like a limelight candidate. And I do not doubt he is a true talent. Don't see him leaving the McLaren camp anytime soon either. Let's just remember Nige :D

P.S. That McLaren roadcar is a disaster. The most underwhelming and unoriginal design I've seen in years. Such a shameless knockoff of the F430, with some Cayman cues to boot. What's Ron Dennis thinking? This thing looks like Hyundai designed it. Where's Gordon Murray?

since the eighties, mac-laren associated with honda than renault and now mercedes. it's time to have a complete mac-laren car!

Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14% of people know that.

I can't watch Rallying now. Hope he sticks around till some other driver of his ability enters F1. Alonso and Kimi together at Ferrari, Now that could be interesting.

Rumours are that Ferrari may go with Kimi and Alonso next year. Or, that Kimi will switch to Rallying after leaving Ferrari.

I never said it's about the teams for me did I??

Liked Hakkinen supported Mclaren. Liked Kimi supported Mclaren, Kimi leaves Mclaren, Hamilton comes in. I like Ferrari now.

If it's only about the teams, I would love to see Force India on top for obvious reasons.

No Lewis My favourite team will stay whichever team Kimi drives for. Remember 2007 season, Only Hamilton could have lost that lead and only Kimi could have won from there. I know it was his first season and all boy did he choke.

Hamilton could become a salesman for the new MP14-12C which has just been announced. This is Ron Denis’ pet project and totally McLaren…

It will be shown at the next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show. It’s supposed to have a sprint time of about 3.5 seconds and a 200mph maximum.

I was a Mclaren fan in the days of Hakkinen and Kimi. Then they signed Lewis Hamilton and I became a ferraari fan overnight.
