fabulous present, and a neat 'true story'.
The following lady is being cared for by friends of mine who work directly with refugees, particularly women and children.
I thought this would be of interest to those folks who were wondering what to give for a 50th / 60th birthday; end of service; or a special occasion Present.
Manije is an Afghan lady. Her husband, an army pilot during the Russian occupation of Afghanistan, was assassinated by the Taliban who took over after the Russians, leaving her the guardianship of three sons and a daughter. Her two older sons were then abducted by the Taliban, never to be heard of again, and, fearing for her life, she took her last son and her life in her hands and sought safety in Russia and Pakistan for a few years. Then finally, from Turkey, she was led to a European city where her and her young son Rashed finally found a home and safety!
There are very few job opportunities for someone with so little command of her new country’s tongue. To top it all, last summer she ended up in prison due to a young, enterprising Afghani using her name to sign some dishonest deal! But she is a very graceful and noble lady and has kept her heart unoffended.
Recently we discovered that this lady has the ability to make hand woven, short piled Persian carpets!!
And she has recently been provided with a loom!
She makes beautiful personalized A3 size rugs, to your own design if you wish, your initials, your family crest, your logo, etc.!!! They are quite unique and they can commemorate a special occasion or event such as a wedding or a birthday etc. They can be hung on the wall or at the back of an armchair or made into a cushion! They make first class gifts!
If any of you are interested in ordering one and helping this lady to make ends meet, please check out the 'sample' picture and contact details in the Classified Ads section.
