Excellent event. Okay the organisation wasn’t great but a fabulous range of films, special guests, Q&A sessions and superb venues. Plus Katara looked amazing. Great value for money too with most films costing just QR30.
If you didn’t go, your loss. Check it out next year!
Thank you Wirehead. Not every movie had to be repeated at Villiagio, but maybe the more popular ones. Also, timings overlapped on some movies, so you would have to miss the beginning of some movies. For example The Help didn't start until 8:40 instead of 8:00pm
but last year some films were shown in villaggio and city center. we could walk from film to film there too because the cinemas were of course right beside each other. and people went to see them as well. i didn't see any films this year because the good ones were all shown in katara (apart from them getting sold out on day one) and even if they provided shuttles, the distance was a little bit inconvenient for me.
if i remember correctly, most films last year were shown at least once in all 3 or 4 venues.
Now, I really feel like a loser. I should have given in to the cajoling of my DTFF volunteer friend to go to Katara last Thursday or Friday:( I’ll just check it out next year (granting I’m still here):)
Minoush, it wouldn't have been much of a film festival if you didn't have lots of films showing at the same time. That's the whole point of a film festival.
Most films had between two or three showings.
It was fantastic that nearly all films were in Katara, it meant you could just walk from film to film. What on earth would have been the point in showing films in Villagio? Nobody would have gone to see them.
It was great, my only issue was that the timings were bad, as many films were showing at the same time or only shown once. Also, could any of the films have been shown at Viliago? Maybe second showing of a film could have been at other theatres.
