Fire extinguisher inside car?
By ennedotrisk •
Hi. I'm going to renew my registration for my Accord 2008. The fire extinguisher is currently not fixed. Is it necessary that it be INSIDE the car (below the passenger seat or back seat) or is it ok at the trunk (back compartment) to pass the technical inspection? Thanks. Appreciate your replies..
Answer (based on vehicles I have rented before) : some have it under seat on front passenger, some have it under the seat of back passenger, some have it in the trunk.
The main thing is you should have a fixed (mounted) and un-expired fire extinguisher in your car.
If you want to be sure where - just look at a car that is of similar model and make to what you have the location of the fire extinguisher and have it fixed there also. This is because sometimes in the QTIC they look for conformity. If you don't have it the same as all the other same car make they have inspected then they may fail you.
since you have passed the test. throw out the fire extinguisher
oh MJ how we wish he'll do that
get a new one and put it where it should be.. problem solved.
WK, he's just playing us. he knows the answer already, come on common sense to the OP.
To the OP- You had the answer in first 2 comments but it wasn't the answer you were looking for...
UNDER my car???
LOL..stoopid me...thanks!
hahahahahaha!!!
Draccy, you have a different car...yours has to go UNDER your car. did you not know that???????????????????????
ROFL...nomerci! :)
hahahahahaha...
...opsss I have a soft top! :(
total sense nomerci hahahahaha!
Actually, there is a new rule. For your type of car the fire extinguisher has to be placed on the roof. Smack in the middle of the roof.
And you HAVE to drill 2 holes in your roof to have the holder properly fixed. And the Holder has to be of sturdy metal and completely surround the extinguisher. Makes sense, right?
My Pink Kia has the fire extinguisher and the Nitrous Oxide in the boot (trunk to you heathens).
The bottles are then connected via high grade zinc coated flexipipes to their relevant outlets within the engine bay and car.
Maybe to extinguish yourself quicker hahaha...
jackmohan: seriously: if u have a crash and u are locked inside, whats the use of the extinguisher?
Thanks for all the honest answers...
will you be allowed to justify the location of your fire extinguisher?
If you are allowed, then just get a good wasta!
The need for the extinguisher to be inside:
supposed your car jumped inside the swimming pool... and you are trapped inside as the car is sinking to the bottom of the pool and suddenly there is a spark inside and your beautiful furry car interior catches fire?
Obviously you cannot reach inside the boot!
Seriously:
In a crash one can get locked in the car and unable to reach the boot easily... its wiser to place it where it can be easily reached...
My colleague just passed the inspection with the fire extinguisher fixed in the trunk of his car (which is a 4x4). In my car (which is also a 4x4) the extinguisher is installed in the back also. I don't think they would have installed it there if it would not pass technical inspection at that location.
The important thing is, the extinguisher must be strapped down using a proper mounting.
I have rented a sedan a few weeks ago and the fire extinguisher installed in the trunk. I don't think it is a problem.
If in doubt, call the technical inspection agency.
Regarding the use of fire extinguisher AFTER an accident, if the accident is severe enough to collapse the steering column (which is severe enough to activate airbags also), odds are the driver is - at least - partially incapacitated (incoherent or unconscious) and probably won't be able to use a fire extinguisher regardless of where it is located.
looking for a point - YES it has to be fixed in the front (front of co passenger side)..kallas...
Nobody has given a straight answer, until you came..
if it is not fixed inside the car (passenger side) it will fail. Based on my experience. I hope it settles the issue. Now if you still not sure about yourself, I suggest give it a try. It seems you are not interested for an answer!
Kagester thanks for ur reply, but the issue here is not whether it is recommended or not, but whether it will pass the technical inspection or not (for those who have already experienced it)..
The extinguisher should be visible and easy to reach. Mount the bracket on a strong, stable surface, sloping, vertical or horizontal position. The most common places to mount a fire extinguisher are in front of and behind the seat.
The reason for placing it on the bottom of co-passenger seat because of easy access during fire, when person is cramped/stuck inside the car in the major accident or the whole steering column is collapsed over him
mounting on a trunk of the car is not recommended
No problem..
Thanks tinkerball10
One of my collegues has a 2007 model ... as per him last year i.e. 2010 when he renewed his registartion it didnt require technical inspection... so I am considering based on that. Also a cursory search on technical inspection returned me various sites reporting the same. I am only considering how the three years are counted and thats why asked you to return with facts after you are done.
In the trunk for years...
They never said a thing...
happy go lucky: really? who told you?
guilt: thats what Im looking for, the rule that says IT SHOULD BE INSIDE and not in the trunk. Where did u find it? Link or anything..
Well.. To much for a topic huh.
To answer your question.. Fire extinguishers should be placed in a location "inside" the car where the driver can reach it even if he/she is buckled up. And I think the best location would be area around the front passenger seat, well again it depends how long your arm is.
I dont understand why this thread is getting so big? As per the technical inspection rule the fire extinguisher should be inside the car and not in the trunk. I was asked to move it from the trunk of my previous Volvo to under the front passenger seat. What is the problem if the extinguisher is fitted under the passenger seat?
First check whether 2008 model car needs a technical inspection as I am told 2008 car wouldn't require it... you can renew the registration across the counter. If not, be kind to post your experience as I am due for it too and have a 2008 model car brought from UAE and it does not have an extinguisher.
Hole ? :(
so wats the big deal if you make one more hole in the front seat, coz the inspection for ur bullock cart will be on yearly basis so you might be needing it oftenly....:(
U need to make a hole in order to place it...Im thinking Rizks would reply 'then plug the hole in the front seat if u insist on Trunk-ing it' :)
W T H ? :(
wait a minute...are we talking about Extinguihser or Gas Cylinder ? :(
Rizks it wont fit there ... unless the borrowed cylinder is borrowed from the same make/model car ....
enne if you are 100% sure that you will fail the tech. inspection if you place tat piece of extinguisher inthe trunk, then why dont u keep it in the fron for sometime and after u pass the test...throw it in the TRUNK ? :(
Im just concerned it will fail the technical inspection at the registration renewal if its in the trunk...of course I prefer it to be in the trunk coz it does not look good under the passenger seat or back seat
Its either inside your car or inside your trunk there will be no problem about it for as long as your fire extinguisher is working properly...mine is located in the trunk..
enne its simple !
Just place tat God damn Extinguisher under the front seat of the passenger for easy access.
Is it tat simple to understand ? :(
Could anyone please give an answer?
Dont borrow that bloody extinguisher from your friend... it should be there for your own safety not to pass the test.
Samja kya?
for the TECHNICAL INSPECTION...I thought u know what ur talking about
in our car fire extinguisher put infront of the passenger seat. sometimes i used it as my foot rest hehhehehe
i dont find wats the big issue for the placement of this Extinguisher ? :(
Whichever place u find it easy to grab, you can put there...no matter if its under the seat, in the trunk, under the Car or at HOME ? :(
You are very helpful guys..I can't thank you enough..
Well, then put it in the trunk.
Well, then put it below the back seat.
LP - not in all cars. In some cars it is kept in the trunk
Not all..some are below the back seat
who stole your fire extinguisher?
Seriously, why do you think that the fire extinguisher is placed on the floor in front of the passenger seat in all professionally maintained cars? Any clue?
Well, I can't argue with u people..u are all-knowing after all..
Maybe the trunk doesn't open, because the metal is already bent. What then?
enne anything can happend in just a fraction of seconds...and 5 secs is too much....:)
right !
hope the OP got the answer wat he was looking for ?
If not, put tat Extinguisher in ur pants pockets...:)
And Im going to repeat my answer...if there is a fire IN the car, you can go out and get the extinguisher in the trunk...thats 5 seconds maximum, do u think u'l get burned as hell in 5 seconds?
Rizks, you should be able to grab it. So, it should be close to you, right?
WK, the trunk is also "inside the car."
and wat if the fire is in the Trunk ? :(
Well, then try to think of WK's question. When you got a fire in the car, where should the extinguisher be??
The smart alecs of the world!!
It is Necessary !
and during inspection , they will surely check whether ur damn vehicle is equipped with the Extinguisher or not...
After all its the matter of ur safety and of ur car.
Inside the Car
LMAO LP !
go out were my friend ?
Out of this World ? :)
For sure it needs to be fixed, but whether its necessary that its inside the car or inside the trunk is my query..thanks
You can go out in the evening. There are lots of restaurants.
Is it not possible to go out??
It must be fixed for the inspection! Fixed!
How will a fire extinguisher in the trunk help you in case of a fire?
