Watched the game yesterday on live stream and it was exciting to watch in the middle of the Second Set where Li Na stuck-up in the score of 4 in second set when Schiavone went through Li Na just came back from her composure.
Schiavone was outplayed on the First set and a big smile from Li Na, well kudos to both of them they really played high quality tennis.
IMHO the reason why for a Tennis Title (Wimbledon, Rolandgarros, US Open, Ozzy.. Etc.) for Asian is so hard to achieve is because the lack of sponsors. since WTA/ATP is a pro tour/league you have to spend your own money, for Air fare tickets, hotels, team member, and most of the tour are in European continent, that is the big factor why few or rare opportunity for Asians to achieve such.
Well done to Li Na, She was in the final of the Aussie open and now again in the Final of the the French Open and won it. I hope she makes it to the final at Wimbledon too.
For me it is a very easy name to remember compared to some of the Russian players..:)
alia...., Asia was mentioned, people claim to be "Asian"...so there you go! Not me who mentioned it first, but the person who started the thread...so, if you have complaints, please direct those at that person.
nomerci- no one said anything about nationality, you started it first (you wrote in your 2nd comment "what does it have to do with nationality") until that it was about Asia not any particular national and you know what you always do this thing. well, there are some illiterate people out there who thinks Asia is a country, are you one of them? like we all know you're a Singaporean but you act like you're a Vatican ( ooops i am sorry seems like you gave your self Vatican City as your nationality !)
It also depends on the popularity of a game in a certain region and that is how all games have something to do with nationality. I think, that is what the OP is referring to.

nomerci you almost made me spit my coffee with your table tennis comment... you are mean! LOL!
I would disagree with you about sponsors. the simple fact is that Asia does not YET have the training facilities or the courts to make champions...
Ofcourse , you forget about The Amritraj bothers and Sania Mirza :o)

well nomerci the finalists were neither American nor Israeli :(
have great nice dreams and try to catch them intelligently........
ok alia, will do. Am thoroughly embarrassed and ashamed to be found out :(
stealth - no worries dude, nomerci thinks Asia is a name of country.
nomerci - don't embarrass your self no more, you lost it lady, go get some sleep, sweet dreams !
stealth...hmm, I think it is better to stick with the usual foe..America or Israel!
nomerci blame it on the Indians then :)
I mentioned the continent not even the country of her origin :( even then it took a turn for nationality bashing :)
Way to go QL
Brit sure, completely normal, as you say.
Although, on QL it usually is a bit of a different story, non?
If you look at the major media sites, they are all mentioning the nationality.
This is because it is a FIRST for a Chinese player in a sport dominated by Americans and Europeans.
Well done! As Brit says not the best game but she won.
Fair play to her and I hope this gives her the confidence to go forward and win more :-)
oh, and i am glad that "we all know" that I am singaporean!
Although, that is news to me...lol

Brit, amazing...had no idea!
Seems the Swedes are just everywhere...:)
Yep!
Jorgen Persson and Jan-Ove Waldner ..
I thought you'd know that..
In table tennis?
The Swedes and French have won the world champioships before..
Proud achievement but she deserved it
Well, I think a European has never won a table tennis tournament...maybe this is something to aim for then!
well nomerci, Asians have never won a Grand Slam tournament before, hence the title.
It would be the same with any sport or any achievement the world over.
really games are not 4 certain region any workhard one day he will get atlast.

nomerci, Of course it is nothing to do with the nationality but we feel proud when someone from our place achieve something estimable.
anybody who plays well enough will win...what does it have to do with nationality?
Just saw the match.. Not really enthralling Tennis, but she deserved to win..
