DOHA: Come next month and Qatar will have its first mall exclusively for families, a senior official of the mall said.

“All the arrangements are in its final phase and we plan to have a grand inauguration of the Wathnan Mall on February 1,” Assistant General Manager, Shifa Ali Mohammad said. He said the mall will fulfill the needs of families who wanted a shopping centre where they could shop in the comfort of their families...

Just read genesis' link. Yes, appears to be an "Islamic" mall - one of the initiatives under the Doha as the 2010 Arab Capital of Culture? I think that is pretty neat.

not so good as other malls, security present everywhere even at the entrance of the car park looking for bachelors

I wouldn't call it a mall. It caters specifically for people living that area & middle class . There are no upscale International retails or restaurants.

As per the press releases, it appears to be an "islamic" shopping centre ;)

Make a mini Doha and move all the bachelors there, Oh I mean all the unmarried men from the sub-continent & south east Asia.

*Men who are married back home and their wives aren't here are considered bachelors.

Are we going backwards here in Qatar or just standing still :(

It's hard to reconcile this with the modern, open nation that will be hosting the WC.

Poor bachelors!!

Hope this draconian law to get end soon so that the bachelors can enter FAMILY MALL too in near future without any restrictions...

Edifis you can ask her to cook it for you....but have her put lots of cumin in it,,,otherwise you will not reap any "dessert" benefits...cauliflower causes wind,,,,sometimes a Storm!

LOL..

I suppose there must be a demand for such a mall. Good luck to them.

A few weeks ago Chocoholic went to landmark. Last week , she went to City Centre. Today, she came back from Villagio a little depressed.

I said "what's wrong"

Chocoholic said "Nothing really. It's just when you've seen one shopping centre, you've seen a mall." :O(

stupid idea !! very retarted! IMO ...

Like once i saw the security not letting some nationalities to enter the city center. What a discrimination !!

family section family malls family accomodation .. family family. r they pushing us to marry early?! Wake up people and stop discriminating. people feel safer in a exlusive place for families because deep inside they dont trust their women neither their children. woww wat a family :P

By happygolucky• 24 Jan 2011 11:00
happygolucky

Why only single males... it should not allow even a single female or more than one female (together) without a male, as that also doesn't make a family...

By nightwalker77• 24 Jan 2011 10:36
nightwalker77

will this be like all the other malls on family day where only bachelors from certain nationalities are prohibited? Or will they enforce it for every single male trying to enter, GCC nationals included??

By deepb• 24 Jan 2011 10:35
deepb

all the way down to Al Rayyan? Meh... that's one I will not be seeing anytime soon.

By anonymous• 24 Jan 2011 10:07

ATleast no hypocrisy here, at the entrance ofcourse there will be selective blocking of bachelors.

Few people will rant here on QL once it opens. They will be bullied and abused by few old and wise members. They will say we are bored, don't discuss it again, we are not affected anyway and life will go on....
