Fun in Muscat

Anyone been to Muscat recently?. Am thinking of going for a few days over Eid. Any advice on good hotels, bars, must sees and other things to do would be much appreciated.
Also can anyone recommend a good travel agent?
for all your helpful advice. Muscat was amazing and is definately one of my favorite spots on earth. Your advice was invaluable.
Best places to stay Shangrila Bar Iljissa, Shedi, Hayatt and Albustan palace.
If you dont stay at shangrilla, do visit it at night. A nice place to visit, have a nice meal and ofcourse anice beach.
If you're fond of travelling, do go to alWahaiba sands. Lots of activities there in the dunes and you will enjoy it for sure.
Must sees include The great mosque, Sultan palace, Mutrah corniche and traditional market, fish market.
Clubs you can enjoy your time in include cococabana in Hayatt.
Muscat is a very clean city, has friendly people and very very very beautiful.
I recommend going to Nizwa( there is an old souk there, buy some 18 century coins, swords, omani silver, jewelery...), then u can go to the castles in nizwa(Jibrin Fort), I also recommend going to Rustaq ( there are hot springs+ there is Rustaq Fort)... the history is amazing. But try and go early in the morning for Fort Tours. The beaches are lovely over there, go to jassa(near bustan palace), its just nice.
For checking out the malls in the city, go to qurum, all malls are concentrated over there.
In matrah, u can walk in the corniche, check out the Sultan's palace (one of his palaces) and the old souk.
Have fun,,
I go to muscat every year, its cleaner than qatar, but development is very slow. They dont rush into construction like doha.
Call some tour companyies for checking a beautiful dessert called ( THe Wahiba Sands) JUST AMAZING.
I was in Muscat recently and would recommend a visit to Nizwa - you can get a shared taxi from Muscat - Go on a Friday morning so you can check out "Tescos Omaany Style"
I also recommend Mutrah and The Fish resturant at the dock end of the main corniche road ;-)
Just got back from there myself, had a great time. Stayed at Intercon, it was an old hotel, not too bad. The one not far, Grand Hyatt, had much better interior (lobby) and a decent nightclub. Try driving to the new Jar Al Bissa (sp?) hotel - Shangrila, it was really really Reeeeally nice. THe little corniche in Muscat is a must see, so is the old souk there. I haven't been around much really but I heard that the Grand mosque allows non muslims in, will try next time. Not sure if you could get in there during Eid though. You will love it!
