Briton is recognised as world's first officially genderless person

A British expat who claims to have no gender is thought to have become the first person to be officially recognised as neither male or female.

After becoming unhappy as a woman, May-Welby decided to become a “neuter”. The 48-year-old is now officially recognised as a person of no specific gender.

May-Welby emigrated to Australia at the age of seven after being born in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

Officials there altered the Briton’s birth certificate to include the new no-gender classification after doctors were apparently unable to determine the sex of the expat’s body.

May-Welby said: “The concepts of man or woman don’t fit me. The simplest solution is not to have any sex identification.”

The UK’s Gender Trust welcomed the case. A spokesman said: “Many people like the idea of being genderless.”

rishimba, Testis is a male gonad and ovary is female gonad and no they are not endocrine glands.

drmana, as far as i know, gonad, which is an endocrine gland, produces such hormones..testes doesnt.

rishimba, endocrine glands have nothing to do with ones gender. Its the hormones produced by Testis or Ovary. In absence of male hormones during intrauterine life, all embryos will develop as females. Endocrine glands act under influence of the sex hormones only.

i dont understand the sex change operations... the gender is not only dependent on the genitals...it starts from the endocrine glands which regulate the levels of many male or female hormones eg. testosteron or progesteron in the body..

how can one, through a operaration, change such glands...

probably, the sex change operation, whatever it is, is irreversible and thus he had no other option left but to become a neuter..

he could have, instead, treated himself initially when he wanted to become a female... the original problem was mental perhaps.

How can one become neuter medically? Was "this person" born male or female. Somewhere it is mentioned that born as male and then got sex change operation. Again at another place mentioned that doctors were unable to determine gender at the age of 7....confusing info. Was it that he/she was born with both testis and ovary (rare but possible condition) and later got both removed surgically?

Sounds more like publicity stunt--headline stuff. Hundreds of people are confused about their gender and live a life without really confronting these issues.
