Give Way
I know everyone complaints about Land cruisers in Qatar Roads. But are these Land Cruisers biggest traffic problem in roads? I honestly think no. I have been driving in Qatar for last 5 years and I believe lack of willingness to “Give Way” is the biggest problem. This is correct with majority of drivers in road from all sorts of nationalities. Last vacation I drove for around 600 miles in UK and was really impressed with the “Give Way” culture in UK roads (of cause with exceptions).
Lets start a movement with a small step. Let us “Give Way” at least once a day
-Give Way when someone try to enter from side road
-Give Way when someone crosses the road
-Give Way when someone tries to overtake
-Give Way when someone is reversing his car
Believe me... I have been practicing this for last few months and this has really relieved lots of stress when I am driving. I am now a happier driver (most of the times).

I totally agree with you indigo, and this is why everyone has become agressive on the road. People are not willing to let someone through, which is why people force their way through. It happened to me this morning, i let someone in before me and the amount of honks i got from motorists behind me, was like i just committed a bloody crime.
I dont beleive in giving way to those people who use slip roads to escape traffic, nor the people who create a their own lanes, but generally yes give way when you can.
poor indigo, his happiness is now distorted. lol. maintain your happiness friend. but don't obstract the traffic please. happy driving.

Nobody is perfect on the road, though many above here pretends they are.
Being a push over who does not care that others are taking advantage of you does not make you "loose your soul. Or pre programmed robots." It means you have a mind, you know how to use it and you stand up for yourself.

Glad to see you at least got the point. Letting them easily back in just encourages them to do it again next time.
I'm a curteous driver and I do let peple merge in and wait for them to back out etc. However MOST drivers here have the incorrect idea as to who REALLY has the right of way and who must give way.

Yes there are rules. But there is something called kind gesture. This is what makes some one happy.
I was not referring to freeways where the main traffic always get the priority. How many we have in Qatar. What is the loss if you give way to someone trying to enter Al Nassar street from side way. It only makes everyone happy if you could stop for few seconds when you see a car reversing in City Center.
Don’t loose your soul. We are not pre programmed robots. All I wanted to say is that be kind in the roads. Now I know why so many bad drivers are out there in the street.
Honestly, how many of you passed the test????
I agree with those cases somewhat however the real problems are not those.
Example the drivers who come storming in from the side road because they do not think they need to give way (Common occurance).
The drivers who purposely manuever around over rock and sand, through parking lots, over curbs and side walks just to force their way back into the line rather than waiting (Very common occurance)
The people who just blindly reverse out into traffic because they believe you should give way to them. (Again common occurance).
Giving way to these bad drivers simply encourages them to do it more. Many here have no sense of "traffic flow" only of "I must go first!" Many traffic jams here are greatly increased due to these activities as well as a complete lack of lane control. People just don't seam to get the idea that traffic rules HELP the traffic flow.

-Give Way when someone try to enter from side road
Could mean, if you stuck in a queue and someone wants to pull out, let them.
-Give Way when someone crosses the road
Could mean, if you stuck in a queue and someone wants to cross, don't pull right up to the bumper of the car in front, let them cross.
-Give Way when someone tries to overtake
This is a given - get out of my way ;)
-Give Way when someone is reversing his car
Could mean, if the guy is trying to park on a busy street, let him.
sometimes i'm forced to....esp to the oversmart alecs who simply whoosh thru the parking lots along the corniche and push in thru the sides during morning traffic en route to work x-(

try to respect indigo's rules forget trafic rules main road side road, let him be happy.lol
-Give Way when someone try to enter from side road> THE PERSON ENTERING FROM THE SIDE ROAD MUST GIVE WAY TO THOSE ON THE MAIN ROAD.
-Give Way when someone crosses the road> DO NOT CROSS THE ROAD UNTIL IT IS CEAR - IN OTHER WORDS GIVE WAY TO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEFORE CROSSING
-Give Way when someone tries to overtake
-Give Way when someone is reversing his car> DO NOT REVERSE UNLESS THE WAY IS CLEAR - IN OTHER WORDS GIVE WAY TO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC
The reason it is set up this way is to maintain traffic flow. Traffic flow is not maintained in Doha because people are always trying to force their way into oncoming traffic instead of patiently awaiting their rightful turn.
