is there any joint in doha that offers fish and chips the british kind? Not the fake hamour with french fries they call fish and chips here, but proper stuff you get in the UK with thick unevenly chopped potatoes and golden fried fish covered in salt and vinegar!
I like to svour hot chips with melted cheese on top, with a mayonnaise dip it is perhaps the most unhealthy dish possible - apart from the pudding - deep fried mars bar with sugar on top - a sugar rush so good it can cause a heart attack.
Lol pwb!!! they love spices too!! heheheh but i dont really like fish and chips very much, my husband love it very much though, you know why...hehehehe
Glad to hear that "fish" is actually supposed to have taste! Went to a british sandwich shop in town (which was our first british "fish and chips" experience) and it was the most bland, gross stuff ever. I was starting to think British people must just hate spices.
silvermoon it is not that hard to make, if you can get a hold of gravy, cheese curds throw it on some fries and viola! However I personally would eat it very rarely because of it's artery clogging effects :o.
thanks guys for all the responses, I will need to check those places out to satisfy my cravings, obviously I will try not go overboard with my indulgence, can't have the father looking fat now can we?
There is obviously a gap in the market since Rays closed down on family food centre road. He did great fish and chips but sadly went blind because of diabetis and returned to Oz although originally he was from the UK.
Well I was born in Stephenville and I lived all over Newfoundland. My grandmother was from a reserve near St. Anthony's. Yup Poutine is the cheese, chip and gravey. It's a heart attack on a plate and its absolutely devine.

Oh I forgot about the good Cod and chips in St Johns. I was thinking of a place called Rogues Roost in Halifax, or the Lower Deck. But I remember growing up in St Johns and my parents going and getting cod and chips from the little trailer down the road. Man oh man I can't wait to go home! I will also need to go and get a big plate of poutine.

The fish and chips at Garvey's is ok, but I personally can't wait to go home in 4 weeks and eat real beer battered fish and chips down by the harbour, mmmmmmmm. My mouth is watering already.

Ok so you're all going to think I'm a romantic fool, but the night before my wedding the other week I took my fiance to Southend seafront in Essex. We went to Baileys Fish and Chip restaurant and had Rock (Type of fish) in batter and chips, with a mug of tea. It was bliss ! The batter had lifted away from the meat and was crispy. The chips chunky and like mash potato inside. Covered in sarsons vinegar and salt. B had a wally as well ! (The brits should know what that is, shame on you if you don't).
You just can't beat eating it at the restaurant rather than taking it home. Only problem was we stank of fish'n'chips afterwards.
It's a club and there are guests staying there so there's a possibility. I think I'll drop by tonight or Friday night just to see if there's a good band playing. Or bump into some old friends and have a bottle or two...
its not a cozy place but tasty fish well you have it at Golden Fish restaurant.....hope that there is a post harvest facilities here in Doha so they can keep the good catch fish very well instead of importing frozen ones...
My SIGNIFICANT OTHER always tell me what it looks and taste like (he's Scottish, BTW) and the one we tried at Garvey's passed his fancy palate. Liked it myself...

Thats the chips, cheese and gravy thing. I tried that for the first time in Montreal last year.
So you grew up in St Johns ! I went there on a whim, was bored at work and just picked a place on the map. Had a great time !
Suprised how much history surrounds St Johns
