Come on guys! this is just a conversation through the net! no one really should pay too much attention if anyone is attacking you. you both had said something bad to each other and let your heat out, just stop in that point. look at me and Stealth at some point when I was in the mood to fight with him he did response and when we cool down we learn to ignore each other.

This board is like a family we talk to each other and share things to people informative stuff. We're like brothers and sisters here. Brother and sister do fight but they still have to put up with each other. learn to forgive and forget so it will lessen the pain you created to each others heart.

Thanks, you are right, I certainly did not intend any of my posts to sound racially motivated and I apologise to anyone that may have thought so and was offended by such.

With ref to SDr, he was giving medical/health advise and I for one do believe that a discussion Q/A thread such as his was very relevant and definitly worthwhile to the greater community.

However

To give even health advise (be it medical/health or dietary)it has to come from a qualified person, to that end it falls under the medical/civil law of "if requested the qualified person (doctor) must display his credentials for giving said advice"

At the very minimum a Doctors Licence number should be given.

I agree with the last few comments, we have failed in ourselves to notice that we have all split and argued over something a troll has posted.

You people should cool down and think about the situation for at least few moments. Do you really know why did you start fighting? or what made you to start the fighting?

I think it all started from the thread "Top Secret". and I think you all will agree with me that it was started by a Troll... as Qatari had informed us about it before, in one of his threads. And if you have gone through that thread, then i think that all got the impression that we should ignore those threads - by Trolls when we recognize it to make this forum worthwhile.

But what happened here? Despite of ignoring it you have joined the thread and later on began fighting with each other. In that sense, the troll became successful and we failed. We failed to prove ourselves worthy of being self controlled to make QL effective. No one needs to leave the forum just be more cautions about the trolls.

I would like to request Qatari to take measures immediately to make QL effective again and keep it along with its members' relationship protected.

Is it possible for everyone to act as sensible adults? Or is this place becoming a place to hammer the frustrations. HOw it that such a peaceful community has become like this. Any answers anybody??

I was wondering if you would have ever tried fake degrees thing with Europeans and Americans. Though most Europeans and Americans in Qatar are poorly educated with HND being a premium degree. WEll well well look at where QL has reached. This was a long time coming. Ever since I joined I have been seeing the same group insulting Muslims, Islam and Qataris. As someone said in another of the threads all this was just fun not serious stuff.

RIght. BUt it may have hurt a lot of people in this forum the same way it has hurt others if they have been personally targeted.

The westereners or specifically the Americans and English people think they are the ones who know English better than the rest as it is their mother tongue. COme off the high pedestal, there are many more Asians who speak and write better English thna many of you. As for someone whose job is a lecturer he shouldnt have been looking at asians in a discriminatory manner.

And Qatari QL has deviated a lot from its stated intentions. Thats agreed by everyone- the ones who troll, the ones who insult others and the ones who are out to help/give suggestions.

The solution lies in the hands of the people who type the matter. NOt with any administrator nor moderators. What happens in the end is many will leave the forum not because its bad but because its been hijacked by a few know-alls. Thats all.

At the outset thanks for your kind words... In the midst of rabid accusations that Im a fake doctor with fake qualifications, Im happy most people in this thread realise all this fake drama is unnecessary sabre rattling...

We have long since deviated from the main topic and we are just mouthing inflammatory speeches to add fuel to the fire....

I come from India and Im brown skinned so it must be a joke to a few who think i might have bought my medical degrees in a supermarket in a delhi slum.... I hold certifications from the American College of Surgeons in Philadelphia and this is not the right place to discuss my medical knowledge... I dont need to point out the world is no longer ruled by the Queen and her gifted subjects....the days of snooty toungue in cheek racist comments are passe.....I repeat I DONT need to prove myself to anyone....

Having said this, we are all here to have fun, exchange ideas, make online friends and make life in Doha pleasant.... not to fight and bicker over non issues.... disagreements do occur on sites like this.... if threats and drama antics are gonna be the end result of all disaggrements then the main idea of having a site like this is lost.... If we post sensitive issues on sites like this people wud have ridiculous feedback.... if you post sensitive info online and cant stand people giving their opinion on it then dont post....insulting someone because you disagree isnt the way to deal with it....

But look around what has QL become.... we have so called women openly advertising for life partners/ sex partners with money... women calling each other "stinking hoe"...

To start with I liked a few postings here and wanted to contribute...I wrote a few postings about foot fungus and dermatology and the latest one on staying fit and losing weight....a few people seem to have benefitted.... thats enuf for me.... never knew I had to post my degree certificates to write articles here... neways... in this vicious cycle of ego bashing and insulting each other... i knew a few people were pained by truths decision to leave.... I never wanted anyone to go...

In hindsight it wud have been better if i hadnt visited this website at all... blame google search for this.....

Im just tired and i feel my time would be better spent on a tennis court or in a yoga class... and as someone said theres life beyond QL we all need a break...

With the intent of not taking sides, I want to say to Qatari that I hope you keep these message boards as open as possible.

In any community, not everyone gets along with everyone and not everyone has the same definition of civility. But for me, part of the pleasure of this forum is experiencing the broad community assembled in Doha and on QL.

On occasion, that experience is negative. But at no time is the entire community rendered inhospitable or unappealing by a few postings in a few threads.

Anyhow, the truth 321, please don't leave the forum just yet. You have been a valuable member with great insights and it's a shame that you would leave before the situation can be fixed. You know that steps are being taken to make this forum a better place for all.

Gypsy, no woman deserves to go through what charmed has been through - to be spoken to so obscenely is not right and she has every right to speak out against it. She has already taken the steps in reporting the man, his license plate, talking to the police, with nothing happening because the man is apparently a big wig. As a last resort, she posted her thread to let the man know IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that she will not tolerate his behavior.

If women don't speak up about the way they are being treated, then the problem will never be fixed. If, as you say, a lot of girls have faced the level of obscenity that this man has inflicted on charmed, they are wrong to stay silent. Silence will only encourage the perpetrator to escalate his actions.

I believe there HAVE been a lot of trolls on the site, posting needless threads or making incendiary comments just to get a rise out of people. I've seen numerous threads in which people post ridiculous comments that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic. It's rather sad that these people have nothing better to do and feel the need to provoke other people.

I also think that people are extremely quick to jump to conclusions and that a prime reason is due to language. A lot of people on this site are not native English speakers. Non-native speakers will take a phrase in their own language and translate it english without realizing that the word they chose is not being used in the proper context. There's nothing wrong with that. However, other people respond harshly without thinking about what the author intended and the mudslinging begins.

I also think people take things way too personally (again, could be a language issue). Lighten up! Most of the people here don't know each other and I really doubt that their initial intention is to insult other people. In addition, everybody needs to respect other people's opinions. If you don't agree with someone's point of view, either (1) don't respond to the thread, (2) or respond in a manner without resorting to name-calling, bashing, etc.

And while I'm at it, this isn't a dating forum. This has been stated numerous times. You can ask all you want about dating - not a problem. Just don't ask for a date - the thread quickly disintegrates into something more obscene and becomes quite useless.

Anyhow, I hope that this forum will become a much better site. I joined the site because I wanted to meet other expatriates and enjoy my time in Doha. Right now, that's a bit dubious due to all the trash talking going on.

Let's wipe the slate clean and start all over.

There is basically no way to ban someone from this or any other site if they want access bad enough.

As mentioned, an IP can be changed, but IP blocking may be the most efficient method in the end. The problem with it is that banning too many IPs, or a range of IPs could result in people being inadvertently denied access.

The same result would come from attempting to block someone by DNS server, only it would impact MANY more innocent people than blocking a range of IPs would. It's a bad idea and it's an administrative nightmare. You may as well be proactive and block the entire internet, then make exceptions when users request access.

The list of reasons why MAC blocking\banning won't work is quite long. Aside from being impossible, the MAC address of a certain user's network card is not sent to the forum in the same manner as the IP is. IP packets received by the site don't even contain the MAC address of the individual PC used to send them. The MAC address basically "stops" at the first router along the way to the webserver for this site. That means if you were able to block the MAC of the router, which you wouldn't, that wouldn't make much sense because blocking the offending IP would be much easier and effective. Aside from all of that, MACs can be cloned or spoofed just as easy as IP addresses can be. Free airport wifi anyone?

Bottom line, individual IP blocking is the way to go even if it can be changed. MAC blocking, if it were possible, would be tedious and not worth it.

thanks for the kind words however over the duration of my residency in QL I have seen many changes, granted we cannot control who comes and goes....but to be called a liar and made out to be a fool I cannot and will not stand.

Qatari as per your personal email, what needs to be done to change the site -

Carry on with the abuse notification principle and the swear word automated blocker.

Also

Each post/profile has several distinct entities entwined within it, firstly IP address - this can be faked and made to appear anywhere in the world (I do it regularly to bypass Qtel lol)

DNS/ISP associated address - again easily faked

MAC address - now this one is specific and can be traced to the actual PC used, so abusive threads/posts should be traced via the MAC address and for that to be blocked from the site.

This is the last advice or helpful post I shal submit on QL, I have no intention of being called a liar again...oh and Sexydoctor pray to whomever you pray to that I NEVER meet you!!!

Nothing hurts me more than the recent spate of trolling we have had. Yet this is normal and comes with the growth - I have promised to deal with it (please please please http://www.qatarliving.com/contact to report abuse) and am currently working on mechanisms to keep trolls out and keep this place friendly.

Please don't feel you need to leave - it really kills me when I see something like this. This community means a world to me - and I would hate to see the good people leave because of a few bad eggs.

Some of the things that we are working on to address our recent growth:

1. Posting Guidelines and Terms an Conditions for the site.

2. A better moderation system where we can hand over more control to trusted users

3. A mechanism to report abusive behaviour.

If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them.
