Hajj: a pilgrimage towards God
The last batch of Qatar's pilgrim have arrived in Mecca, as reported by Qatar's News Agency.
They join millions of Muslims from all over the globe are now trekking towards Mecca to perform Hajj. Hajj is a five day ritual beginning on September 9th and ending on September 14th.
Hajj is one of the 5 five pillars of Islam and must be performed by every adult Muslim, at least once in their lifetime, who is financially and physically capable of doing so.
Hajj removes the boundaries of status, race, and wealth, as all Muslims gather together and wear the same attire and praise God as they circle the Kabba.
Women are forbidden to cover their faces, even if they regularly do so, while performing Hajj.
Hajj is considered an opportunity for Muslims to absolve themselves of sins and become closer to God. It is more than a physical journey for people, but also a spirtual journey towards the Lord who created them.
Meeting the Hajjis, those who have returned after Hajj, always present a marked difference in character. They seem more spiritual, more committed to God, and often share that the pilgrimage is often an emotional experience that has left them forever changed.
