2 of my friends were chased by a patrol cop, they got away but they were scard shitless.................they were drinking redbull in westbay during ramadan fasting hours, lucky for them the cop didnt take their license plate number otherwise they would have been screwed

No exaggerating bajesus. We are told over and over not to eat, drink, or smoke in public, that it is against the law. I lived in Kuwait and it was the same way there. However, Qatar is much more relaxed then Kuwait is.

I understand that a lot of it is done out of respect and I have no problem with that. I am a smoker and of course I find that the hardest. However, I'm in Canada at the moment and will miss all of Ramadhan. In some ways I'm disapointed that I'm not there. Can be a lot of fun with the festivities in the evenings.

Enjoy everyone!

Even if you heard such things do u personally know any1 who has been punished by being whipped for eating in public? They give out stern warnings so that nobody would be careless or inconsiderate enough as to offend us so publicly. Its called common sense ppl!

Aisha, best you ask again. Thats what i hear every ramadhan for the past 5 yrs. Even hubby's office and son's school always giving flyer out saying to refrain from eating and drinking in the public because it is against the law.

By Rashid• 24 Sep 2006 19:28

dont u get whipped or somethin for eatin in public? (muslims only) am not sure but thats what i thought.

By Aisha• 24 Sep 2006 18:51
Aisha

Nooo who said that!!?

Even if the person was muslim it's his\her choice not to fast if they, say, didn't want to.. I never heared it's against the low!!

I'll ask about it again...!

Breaking the Ramadan fast in public will result in at least a warning if someone wants to make an issue of it.

Anyone over the age of 10 should not contemplate eating or drinking in public.

Or you can go to Lebanon!

No actually you cannot eat or drink in public, its a criminal offence and you might be fined, so don't make this mistake. We were warned about it at work so that nobody does it.

Thanks Aisha! Gosh, I really thought I could go to jail for drinking a bit of water in public! lol...

I wouldn't eat in public during Ramadam, and I regularly do fast anyways, but I always run around with a drink in my hand, can't help it, like I need to drink every ten minutes or else I really feel thirsty.

I feel much better knowing that I can drink in public :)

looool novita. noo that's not true! Were you joking?

guys you can eat in front of us!You can eat in public, In your cars..anywhere you want! Some wants to show respect by not doing that, it's just how you see it :-) Nothing will happen if you ate. However, the resturant don't open their doors beauce it's a kinda Islamic country..

really it's ok. I don't understand why you can't.

you will get lock up in jail, and they will let u out when the ramadhan finish. Not too sure how true that is.

i come from the biggest muslim country in the world, during ramadhan non-muslim still can eat and drink as usual. Just eataries places always cover up their properties (normally with white clothes) so the people eating inside can't be seen from outside. And you just have to be tolerance when you eating you don't show off infront of your muslim friend.

Just out of curiosity...

What happens if an adult is seen eating or drinking in public during ramadam? Is just unrespectful (which I don't see why it would be unrespectful) or is it against the local sharia law?

Please help me understand:

when you say not eating, you mean eateries, right? If you're out and about, a mother can have snacks in her bag, I hope????

My heart is with my babies.

OK, that answers my question, but then raises another. If the children are allowed to eat, may they do so in front of their parents then?

Children aren't supposed to fast in Ramadan. Muslims are only bound to fast once they reach puberty.

You will, of course, find many a post-pubescent Muslim not observing the fast.

e46M3 - excuse my inquisitiveness, but how do you manage to explain to a 2 year old that they have to abstain from eating and drinking during Ramadan? It must be extremely difficult for the kids during this time.
