Heavy Metal in Doha
By crapcircle •
Hello all!
I've just moved to Doha and was wondering if there's any bands/gigs/events happening around here, or if there's any metalheads and particular places where such people "congregate". I used to live in Abu Dhabi a while back and I remember the scene there being quite vibrant, even though most of the fans/bands were of a younger age there were things to do and we would travel to Dubai frequently en masse with organised buses. It wasn't much by any means but we had fun, and I made a lot of good friends from the world over. If anyone knows anything about how stuff goes over here, please do chip in!
Thanks!
Looking for the same thing

6 years later, any updates? We're looking for a guitarist and a vocalist for an old school heavy metal band.

Heavy Metal Rules \m/ \m/
and When did Air Supply changed their Genre to Heavy Metal?
CAN YOU SHARE WHO SAID THAT INFAMOUS ADADGE-"FOR THOSE WHO ARE ABOUT TO ROCK WE SALUTE YOU"
Well crapcircle, FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK IN DOHA, WE SALUTE YOU!!!
Well folks, when all that stuff started in the Emirates it was two battle-of-the-bands type shows at some American schools. Then they brought over Deep Purple and Roger Waters, both to sold out crowds, then you had Desert Rock with Iron Maiden headlining in 2007, and the rest as they say is history. A band called Nervecell from Dubai whom I had the pleasure of seeing several times at the most unlikely of venues (spare rooms at an Abu Dhabi cinema, American University of Dubai cafeteria, and other unlikely locales) now go around European summer festivals like Rock-Am-Ring, Metal Camp etc. It's not impossible, but someone has to put their backs behind it and make it happen. There are of course cultural problems that will inevitably arise, a moshpit is something that takes a while to get used to, but for the sake of illustration, in 02 you'd go to one of them older, run down malls in Abu Dhabi and the shopkeeper would wink at you and sneak you in the backroom to sell you some Marilyn Manson, sometimes he'd have Death or Black Metal. Today you can go to Virgin at Villagio and pick up a Deicide CD. Times change and it's up to those with an "enterpreneurial spirit" to do something about things they feel a passion for ;)
No way, Air Supply is coming!?!?!?!?!?!?
Really looking forward to Air Supply coming here ;o)
[inserts fingers violent into mouth]
trash ==== in due time your dream will be realized i supposed, BUT that would take gradually considering the culture of the nation you are in...remember that only CHANGE is constant in this world...
this is their world, so patience is the virtue...trust me there is always a pay off time
The one thing I miss from living in a big city are the various music scenes around town. Over here you don't have any of that, which makes sense considering how "new" Doha is right now. Hopefully some kids can get something going either by way of having amateur bands play the rugby club or getting QBS to wise up and stop playing utter crap.
No freaking rock bar in Doha...
All I want is a bar where they play 70/80's and early 90's rock...
Want to bet there is a HUGE freaking market for it.
Rock, Heavy Metal, or Head Banging music is not allowed here in Doha, many times my neighbor is coming to my door and shouting at me to stop playing this kind of music, it's not allowed... hehehhe what to do..
mate, its dreamy but the sun shine here very early..so wake up and back to reality....
I know some skinheads here.
vibrant we aren't.
ya. so you could do all those head banging stuff much like mettalica, wasp, motley crue, metal church, pantera you name it..yeah i wish there are stuff like those here.
