HMC good or not?

One of our workers is ill for almost 4 mos. He was suffering from pain in his abdomen, around his hips & thigh. He went & consulted in Hamad Medical Center for several times, & got nothing except for a prescription of pain killers & recommendation to go to private clinic & doctor. Eventually our Management decided to send him home for the cheaper medication.
I began wondering, is HMC good like most of the articles about it. Why recommend a patient to go to private clinic. Don’t they have good doctors & facilities like those in private clinics?

Some people told me, if you’re not a Qatari National, then don’t expect good services from HMC. One said you have to wait for 2 weeks or worst 2 months before they schedule you for an operation. Is this true?

I have visited a smaller clinic near the fish market.

I have to say that the treatment from the satff and doctors was very good.

Not too impressed with the the handling for blood work.

being in the core of healthcare industry....

the ugly truth is that healthcare is multimillion business which involves huge investments, companies would go to any extend to get 'return on investments'..

I appreciate the effort by HE and his like minded people who have spent so much money and effort for such a worthy cause like healthcare. What upsets me is why do they allow such misuse of their world class resources. Hamd has lots of potential, but what a waste! And all because of poor administration and corruption.

I will tell you a few facts about HMC

1)Most of the appendicectomies done on expats are exclusively for learning purpose.

2)There is constant pressure on senior doctors to allow student doctors to do surgey or other medical procedures even if the student does not have adequate theoretical knowledge to perform such things.

3)Very few of student doctors are interested in learning, most of them are interested only in the monthly salary.

4)Most of the complications land up in ICUs and cover up stories are created, especially complications of laparoscopy surgeries which are done after office hours without appropriate supervision.

5) Hamad aspires to be aworld class teaching centre and so the higher authorities put in a lot of effort for it's marketing like constantly publishing some article about the hospital in prominent news paper. Note that most of these articles are about expensive facilities bought from foreign countries. There are no articles or follow up by the news people of the subsequent performances of these facilities.

6)Hamad has vast corruption at higher level.

If these facts don't illuminate you, nothing will.

Are you nuts?......no doubt I am crazy about you!

HMC... misdiagnosis are plenty and operation schedule takes weeks even if your situation is serious. experience..!

its real funny that the doctors in hamad reason the fact as to why it is worth the waiting in HMC is that the treatment is FREE! they dont tell you about their experience or their facilities.

so the best call is to travel abroad or to your own native for serious cases like in my case.

there is no discrimination when it comes to medical treatment and whoever told u that qataris are treated better at Hamad, that is wrong. In my opinion,u would find a better care and treatment in private clinics eventhu u would have to pay more but at the end its Health.I had a friend who was misdiagnosed at hamad few years ago and had to trvel somewhere abroad for therapy.operation schedule could take months,i agree.
