How drivers can deal with motorbikes on Qatar roads
Although they are not that common, we do have to occasionally deal with bikers and riders on the streets of Qatar. Sometimes we tend to be extra cautious, and other times we might not care, but it is important to ensure our actions as drivers do not affect the safety of those riding bikes in Qatar.
Here are a few tips on how to deal with bikers/bikes:
Overtaking
Always avoid overtaking from the wrong side because this leads to panic for the biker, and might result in accidents on injury. Drive at the normal speed, and overtake as per the rules of the road.
Distance
Always ensure you keep a safe distance from the motorbike. In the event of any mishap, at least you will have enough time to react and maneuver accordingly.
Roundabouts
Do not try to cut off a biker at the roundabout, because negotiating a roundabout is more difficult for a motorbike than a car. Allow the biker to go his way, even if it slows you down.
Give way
Allow the biker to pass or ride in front of you if need be, this is not only a good gesture, but also ensures safety.
Speeding
It sometimes might be tempting to speed with a bike, but not only is detrimental to your safety, but the biker’s as well. It is advisable to keep to your lane and ensure you are within the speed limits.
Special conditions
In the event of rains, for instance, exercise extra caution because motorbikes are more accident prone than other vehicles and slippery roads can be highly dangerous.
Do not panic
A common thing that drivers do here is panic when they see a motorbike. They don’t know how to react or are not used to it, and thereby end up making bad driving decisions that might have negative effects. If you see a bike, just be careful, but do not panic, and continue to drive as you were.
Do you have any tips you would like to share with us? Drive safe!
Please also keep an eye on people who are on the roads. No one loves to get splashed with dirty water from speeding cars.
Thank you and well deserved comments and the post.
Over all, I feel we are talking about discipline.
Example: When a friend of mine complained to the teacher about a matter which brought up by his 7 year old child.
From the very next day, the teacher started to take revenge from the child.
If the country/authority have recruited a teacher in this fashion, what about others?
PN: Not all the teachers are bad.
My point is: Decent people - Decent outcome.
Wild people - Wild outcome
Need a lot of patience.
Please kindly note, when a decent see a wild, please loose the battle with the wild and find your way.
Because people will have problem in segregating good & Bad.
May god bless all
1. Use the mirrors
2.Use the signal lights
3. No tailgating and dont overpass on my right when I am in the midle of the 3rd lane and there is trafic all around me and I dont have enough room to change the lane .
4. Dont drive like you own the road.
5 . When you are stoped at trafic light dont open your doors to spit or to discard garbage on the road ....and also if you see me coming , filtering the lanes and you are stoped , please stay in the midle of your line , not so close to the car next to you that you are able to touch mirrors, and dont try to block my way. Between cars at the trafic light is extremly hot due to the heat expelled by your engines.
6. If you are on the fast lane and I am on the next lane , dont play games with me by simulating that you are goind to change the lane suddenly. I may got panicked and I may go down and die.
Overall just more awerness and road education is needed.
I really feel worried when I see bikers on the traffic signals.
Specially if they are expat bachelors they should take extra care while driving a sports bike because if something bad happens then their family backhome will suffer just for their own thrill.
On the other part whenever bikers go fast and my kids miss him, they feel happy to see them trapped on the next signal... Heeeeee Heeeeee Heeeeee :)
I always feel like bikers show more arrogance than car drivers. They do risky rides between two cars at the intersections and R/As. Especially the sports bikers rather than the delivery boys. Am I the only one who feel like this?
You have the power with your car. Don't let them bully you. Push comes to shove, you are in a much safer placer.
Give the biker the space he/she needs (both when overtaking and following)
Always look for a bike when pulling out from a side road or a junction.
