Hi guys,

I am new here in Doha, using business visit visa, after facing lots of trouble, and spending money for my visa, finally i got working visa with the help of one Qatari madam(God bless her more! Now I found a job in marketing, i know i can handle the works but i have a problem in my communication skills, When i was a student, I really hate english subject, most of the time i used to take an absent or cutting classes during my english time, without knowing that i have gonna blame myself for doing those stupid things. I wish i can undo everything and try harder to listen to my english professor and improve my english speaking so that i can handle any works abroad without feeling so bad and ashame dealing with different people.. I need to become more confident in dealing with clients... Now i want to know How can I improve my english skills? Is there any suggestion? maybe after reading this forum you guys will  say that my english is not bad, well,  i want to learn more, I want to prove myself that I can face people without ashame.

Well, I will try to do all your suggestions given, And so thankful for all of you guys for giving me an advice. Actually I am very talkative person, infacts as long as i can i want to keep talking to practice my english speaking, but what stop me in the middle of any conversation is that, when i found person who can speak english fluently, I started to feel unconfortable to talk with, you know why? because | feel ashame, What if,  I dont use the correct words maybe this person will laugh at me, coz in Philippines If we talk english and If people heard us using wrong grammar, they start laughing and saying! "hahahahh better to not say words in english if you dont know what you are talking about" you see guys, this things make me feel so bad and stop  me for speaking in english! But anyway guys, I know I should take everything in positive way, if i really want to improve my english speaking. at least for the sake of my career here. again wanna thank you all!! Have a good day!

1. Watch english movies but please try to avoid movies subtitled by Chinese or other non native english speakers.... :(2. Read english comics, Archie will do ;) (It's better because there's a conversation between characters)3. Try to avoid speaking in vernacular, as much as possible use english as your medium of speech4. Post in Forums, you will encounter grammar and spelling police everywhere (It's a big help really, though they tend to embarass you, just take it as a positive comment ;)5. Practice, Practice and more practice :))And also, dont let your inability to speak good english serve as a hindrance to your success., Japanese loves their own language yet as you can see they are successful :) Goodluck!

That's true! U don't need good english here... instead we need good arabic to understand the people here. Remember, we are not in America... we are in their place, so we must know how to dance with the music. Right?

Movies might give you slangs..watch the news and read good magazines/books. That said, your written English is not bad at all. Converse with people with good diction. Have fun.

watch english movies. read books. read newspaper articles aloud and practice good accent. it's ok to make mistakes and if someone corrects you, take it constructively. engage in conversations with english speakers and learn phrases from them. small talk usually does help.

watch english movies without reading translation, and repeat the words for the accent. but what can really boost ur english is READING english books and WRITING essays in english.
