How many days does it take to clear a check?

I deposited a cheque (issued by a local bank) to my account on the night of January 28th and it hasn't been credited to my account until now. I called my bank's customer service but they told me it will take 4 to 5 days. I think 4 days is too much. In the past, it only takes 2 days to clear and credit the check to my account. I talked to our accountant and he said the cheque has been cleared by the issuing/drawee bank on 29th of January. That means my money is sitting in the bank's cash position and probably using it for their benefit while I'm waiting for my own money.

Can someone from the banking sector tell me, how long does it usually take to clear and credit the cheque amount to one's account?

Check the spelling of your name is 100% correct. If any single letter is wrong it will send back to the Arab bank.

Usually check clearance is done from 1 to 2 days maximum and it does not take 4 days just to clear a check, something wrong with you banker, better to see the Branch Manager and tell him the problem.
