Human Rights Department in bid to improve reformatory units

DOHA: The human rights department of the Ministry of Interior has begun evaluating the conditions of the reformatory institutions and the two deportation centers in a bid to bring them at par with global standards.

The evaluation is to be carried out for six months after which a report will be submitted to the Ministry of Interior and subsequently a decision is to be taken by the higher-ups on how to go about improving the conditions in the above places to international levels. A team of men and women officers from the department has already begun visiting the reformatory institutions as well as the detention centres.Questionnaires have been prepared for distribution to prison inmates and those detained at the deportation centres to know their opinion about the conditions in which they are living and how in their opinion they can be improved. According to Captain Abdul Aziz Al Mohannadi, from the human rights wing of the ministry, some 2,077 grievances from foreign workers were received by the department during 2006-07. Most of the complaints pertained to different kinds of disputes with their sponsors in addition to requests for issuing exit permits and cancelling deportation orders. The department, Al Mohannadi said, has set up a hotline (No 4890111) for people with grievances.

As for prisoners they should be doing proper graft and have medical research done on them not blarting about living conditions!

And how many of those thousand of unfortunate people there who have legitimate grievances, meaning, it's the other parties who are wronged but since they are the expats (and have no money or ways to get help), they remain to be unfortunate!

I think you're a cynic who is always looking for the worst in things!

How about applauding them for taking steps in the right direction.
