Husband facing jail for hacking wife's email
OK.. we're back to the issue of privacy.. Obviously what he did was wrong, but this has wider implications..
What say you ???
Would you do the same if in a similar position ?
A husband who suspected his wife was having an affair faces up to five years in jail after reading her emails without her permission.
Leon Walker has been charged under anti-hacking laws aimed at preventing identity theft in the US. The 33-year-old had suspected his wife Clara, who had been married twice before was having an affair with her former husband.
Mr Walker discovered a series of emails which confirmed his suspicions that his wife was cheating on him.
With nearly half US divorce cases involving some form of privacy invasion such as the reading of text messages or social networking web pages, the case could have significant legal repercussions.
As her second husband had previously been arrested for beating her in front of her son, Walker handed the emails over to the boy's father.
The concerned father, Clara's first husband, sought sole custody of the boy and was forced into revealing Walker had leaked him the emails.
When his wife realised her emails had been read she went to the authorities and press charges.

She gave him the password, so that's permission to see the e-mails. He's not a criminal. If I was on the jury, I'd rule in favor of him.
Hmmmmmmn
Women :O(
Leon Walker, a Detroit, Michigan, computer technician, faces a jury trial in February for allegedly hacking into his then-wife's e-mail account.
"She'd asked me to read her e-mails before," Walker said in an interview this week. "She gave me the password before. She didn't hide it."
Walker says the e-mails revealed that Clara Walker, who has been married three times, was having an affair with her second husband.
Walker, the third husband, shared the documents with his wife's first husband, who then used them to file an emergency motion to obtain custody of his son with Clara Walker. Leon Walker said he and the first husband were both concerned because, according to Walker, husband No. 2 had a prior arrest on a domestic violence charge.
"He took action with the courts to have himself protected and I took action with the court to have my daughter protected," Walker said.
When Clara Walker learned how the e-mails made their way into court, she complained to police. Oakland County, Michigan, Prosecutor Jessica Cooper used a state anti-hacking law to charge Leon Walker with a felony.
Cooper did not immediately respond to CNN calls for comment, but the Detroit Free Press published a voice-mail from her.
"The guy is a hacker," Cooper told the newspaper. "It was password protected, he had wonderful skills, and was highly trained. Then he downloaded them and used them in a very contentious way."
The Michigan statute forbids someone from accessing "a computer program, computer, computer system or computer network" to acquire property "without authorization."
New York criminal defense lawyer Paul Callan said all 50 U.S. states have such laws, but he called this "a highly unusual use of a criminal statute."
The laws are typically used to prosecute "some technological guy who's broken into a company's computer system and damaged it or stolen something," Callan said.
Leon Walker's defense lawyer agreed.
"I find it so hard to believe that our legislature would enact a law and say 'You know what, if husbands and wives are reading each others' e-mail, that's a priority for us and we've got to stop that,'" attorney Leon Weiss said.
Walker said his decision to peek into his wife's e-mail account was like someone kicking in a door to save someone from a burning house.
"Do you kick the door open or do you let it burn?" Walker said. "I did what I felt was absolutely necessary."
Clara Walker responded in a written statement submitted by her attorney, saying "Leon is not the saint portrayed in the media."
"If you believe news reports you would think he was the faithful husband looking to protect my children. Nothing could be farther from the truth," she said.
The couple's divorce was finalized earlier this month.
somwer, as usual it won't open on mine... could you paste excerpts of that news here so I can read it? :)
new development, the husband is fighting back

Identity fraud or catching the cheat?
so.. the end (result) doesnt justify the means. :)
the law to have an affair however it is against the law to hack.
He is better off without her however.
and weird law!
Tough as it is..the fact is he broke the law and must be prosecuted. Just because the woman was his wife it doesn't make it okay to hack into her private accounts..that's illegal. And though I agree he had a right to know what's happening in his marriage, there are legal ways of finding out..and the fact is though what his wife did was immoral its still not illegal now,is it?As for me, I agree with Arien..my husband and I know each other's passwords as well hence no need to break any laws here!
Yes also known as the puppy face syndrome..Or Po syndrome
Vimmin.... You can't trust them :O(
For years now, females have had the upper hand in everything, anywhere from Canada to Qatar.
If i women picks up the phone and calls the cops, the man will be treated as a guilty criminal without giving him the chance to speak.
I've seen cases where a wife gets drunk, beats her husband and calls the cops on him for not giving her money to buy her drinks. he spent endless nights at jail.
A neigbour of mine stormed my house, broke stuff, and kicked my car on her way out. When i went to press charges, the officer whipped the evidence, and threaten to throw me in jail if i descide to file charges.
MEN, the time is NOW...MALINISM MOVMENT MUST RISE.
The marriage is based on trust and honesty, the relation is ended before the email opening, it is ended when the thinking of cheating started.
Why not employ a detective like 'Love in the afternoon' hmmm!
Johnson like the motto of the UK national lottery..
IT COULD BE YOU!
who will be her next prey....???
.. In the name of love..
The topic is not about straying , but privacy ..
tink, at most times it's not what's missing that leads to going stray.
in a relationship each one should feel content with what the other can offer, not going the other way and try to find it in another, that's one of man's problems, man is never content with what he has and never realizes it.
In a strong relationship, there is nothing called "private". I know the passwords of all my wife's accounts so do she.
move on indeed... :P
that's a cycle tink, and if he/she is no longer happy with the current, find another?
Tinkerbell tell that to Hillary Clinton to let him go..
Best policies is to fogive and forget and move on!..:)
talk about vengeance of a woman scorned!
Hypocrites.
noms..I right behind ya!..:)
Applying this, atleast 70% women should be charged for peeping into Husband's Private business! :D
Come on now.. You being a woman of the world.. Have you NEVER delved into hubby's "privates" ??
bloody weird!!! why cheat anyway??? i dont get it!!
you malum??
desperate measures have to be taken tink
He has all the right to know if he is being cheated!
why do some woman think all men are fools and they can get away anything?
Being in the jail for a short period is better than living with such woman..
stupid "man-made" law. you caught your wife cheating and you're the one in trouble?!
Thank God That I am A Single Man ...For Ever
he is being prosecuted for "hacking" - similar to identity theft ..
Would the wife get the same treatment if she hacked his emails? Or would the law be Lenient to the lady?
Husband faces jail for reading the emails of his cheating wife, but the wife does not go to jail for cheating. The media succeeded in attention diversion scheme.
nice story brit :)
Mjamille :), i guess we can press charges to husband or wife that who have suspicions and their suspicions are not proven to be true.
Suspicions and doubts and no trust, these are some points of couple at war :(
Isn't there some part in the christian marriage vows which include sharing everything in a marriage? What's mine is yours and yours is mine, kind of stuff?
oh my......why cheat in the first place??? WTH is happening in this bloody world!
I guess he could've used some other method of finding out the truth about the wife..
